ok, first post on mums net, go easy on me
what do you think of the name Ludo for a boy
I love it - makes me think of earthy outdoor scenes, crackling fires and a lovely polite child who eats brocolli and loves his mummy
DH just laughs everytime i mention it
Is it gorgeous and unique, or just godawful?

It makes me think of the board game.

LittleChimneyDroppings · 14/01/2013 21:09

Awful.
Sorry!

andadietcoke · 14/01/2013 21:10

I once had a hot French boyfriend called Ludo(vic). Happy memories...

MrsBungleBear · 14/01/2013 21:11

I also think of the board game. I don't like it for a human, personally.

Babygruffalosmum · 14/01/2013 21:12

If you love it then do it. I love my daughters name (it just got many criticisms on here) but none bothered me because I adore it and I think she will too. The way I thought is would I like it if it was my name and the answer was hellll yesssssssss! Grin Harder with a boy I know! Does DH hate it?

LargeLatte · 14/01/2013 21:14

Wasn't Ludo the name of the dog on Labyrinth?

AKissIsNotAContract · 14/01/2013 21:15

I just googled it (because I thought it was a made up name) and the meaning is 'famous fighter'. Doesn't really fit with your interpretation of the name.

tigerpug · 14/01/2013 21:16

ha!! ludo was the big hairy monster in the bog of eternal stench but wanted to gloss over that association!

OP posts:
PollyMorph · 14/01/2013 21:17

Sorry but Ludo makes me think of the big hairy monster from the Labyrinth.

tigerpug · 14/01/2013 21:19

loved Labyrinth, and Bowies leggings! perhaps thats why im so keen on the name. no wonder it isnt a goer with DH

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 14/01/2013 21:20

When I read the thread title I said it in the voice of the big hairy thing from the Labyrinth - Luuuuuudooo. He is very cute though. I would absolutely not inflict give that name to a child. Sorry.

steppemum · 14/01/2013 21:21

totally 100% the board game and can't think of anything else

tigerpug · 14/01/2013 21:22

maybe i should bin the name Ludo and go for Cluedo instead!

MumToOneMogwai · 14/01/2013 21:30

Aww my dogs called Ludo...he's mad as a box of frogs..does that help?

ladymia · 14/01/2013 21:30

I have a few Belgian friends called Ludo (3 to be specific), it's a very common name there so for that reason I do not think of it as weird or unusual.

Although based on the above probably not a good idea here?

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/01/2013 21:32

Ludovic is better. Ivo is quite cool.

I'm sorry, you can't. My associations:

a) game
b) dog

If you called him Ludovic and Ludo developed as a nickname by itself (rather than you imposing it), that would be a bit different, I think. But I think Ludovic would be a bit of an odd name to use without cultural connections.

Iwillorderthefood · 14/01/2013 21:41

Terrible, I hear it a lot and I am afraid it makes me cringe and chuckle all at the same time. It is in the same league as Cosmo for me.

herethereandeverywhere · 14/01/2013 21:49

Was at a baby group 6-ish months ago where there was a little Ludo, nice mum. And weirdly 24 hours later I was at one of those pottery painting places and a slightly overbearing dreadful loud American woman was in getting prints of her pfb. He was also named Ludo! Full name Ludivico after Leonardo Da Vinci's mentor she explained although no-one asked! (Ludovico Sforza - after a quick google Wink). She then went on to say she'd never heard of another Ludo and had done extensive research to confirm the very few Ludo's registered in previous years. I didn't have the heart to tell her I'd met another baby Ludo not 24 hours previous! Grin

I quite like it, although it sounds a bit like a dog's name to me. (I'm probably thinking of Wills and Kate's dog, Lupo though???)

tigerpug · 14/01/2013 21:58

the dream is over, sniff sniff
btw DH top choice is Cliff, doesnt that make Ludo sound a whole lot better?

OP posts:
AKissIsNotAContract · 14/01/2013 22:05

Yeah it does OP! You can't call him Cliff, Ludo is definitely better.

Is it definitely a boy?

ladymia · 14/01/2013 22:05

Ludo is definitely better than Cliff!

MissyMooandherBeaverofSteel · 14/01/2013 22:11

Oh my goodness, Ludo or Cliff, what a choice. Is there any chance you're having a girl Grin

steppemum · 14/01/2013 22:14

Cliff?

well, definitely a retro name, maybe your dh is the beginning of a trend to revive it..
