Do you think names

Maenie Emmeline

or alternatively

Maenie Leia

have too many vowels?

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 01/01/2013 21:34

volvocowgirl · 01/01/2013 21:34

May-knee

It was on one of those find your ancestors programme a few years ago and it's always stuck in my head.

It was written down on the program on a family tree thing and read out loud a few times by different people so that's the spelling and pronunciation they had and I really liked it.

I love the names Emmeline and Leia. I think they are really pretty.
Don't like Maenie as a name - maybe it's the vowels but think its difficult to pronounce and spell - and misread as meanie! Though having said that It sounds nice when said out loud.

HoratiaWinwood · 01/01/2013 21:48

I like the sound of Maenie but agree that it would be said wrong often. Is it like maenad which I'm sure was a fairyish thing in eg Narnia books?

I think they're only vowelly names on paper, and not when said aloud.

Emmeline is very stylish!

Bluestocking · 01/01/2013 21:51

I love Emmeline. Not so keen on Leia. Maenie looks like Meanie which rather
puts me off it.

HoratiaWinwood · 01/01/2013 21:52

Oh dear. Wikipedia makes me unhappy.

Maenie is suggested as a nickname for Mary.

MrsKwaziipanFruits · 01/01/2013 22:21

Children at school would call her Meanie.

MrsKwaziipanFruits · 01/01/2013 22:23

Emmeline is a lovely name though Wink

OutragedFromLeeds · 01/01/2013 22:29

I don't think the vowels are a problem.

I don't like Maenie though. It sounds like meanie in a brummie accent. I also don't like names where the spelling doesn't tie up with pronounciation so everyone is always saying/spelling it wrong.

How about Marnie as an alternative?

3smellysocks · 01/01/2013 23:04

loving Emmeline

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/01/2013 23:04

Emmeline is lovely. Don't like Maenie at all. I don't think Maenie Emmeline has too many vowels but I do think it has too many 'Mmmms' in combination.

Bumpstart · 01/01/2013 23:23

Meanie autocorrects to meanie.

Emmeline is lovely.

OkayHazel · 02/01/2013 19:38

That child will always be Meanie in the playground. Sets them up terribly. Do not do it.

volvocowgirl · 03/01/2013 02:10

My name autocorrects to Doom so I could be starting a family tradition!
