What do you think of Ada?

Due with DD2 in a month. DD1 is Tabitha. We both love Ada but I have slight reservations because its so short - not sure why that's making me think twice. Middle name possibly Grace or Poppy...

Ada is lovely. And Ada Lovelace rocks!

Reckon it'll be quite a popular name?

Awful, sorry, and too similar to the so over-used Ava's and Ella's and Eva's. Howabout Esther?

It's OK and the sentiment and meaning to you make it special but I do agree with those who've said it doesn't compare in loveliness to Tabitha. How about Ada as her middle name and something different as a first name?

risotto you are the first person ever to agree with me on Veda. Dh looked at me like I was nutso when I suggested it for DDs name.

It seems so. Don't take too much comfort though, I liked Blue before Beyonce gave it as a middle name for her first spawn. Grin

Sabrina is also cool however I grew up watching Sabrina the teenage witch! I think my friends would be very suspicious that i'd lost my marbles!

I really like Ada. Lovely name.

Love it - it's on my shortlist too. My first DD is Ivy and people could call that an old lady name too, but I love it still and it really stands out. Go for it!

Ooh I know a Sabrina (20yo ish) and she seems to like it.

jasbro aren't 'old lady' or 'nan' names very very trendy now though? My friend was advising me to go for a name from my mums generation (think Barbara, Sandra, Jackie) as they are sure to be less popular!

I think it's lovely and it's my tip for a name which is really going to get more popular.

Ada Mary

Ada Ruth

Ada Louise

?

You can call her Addie too which I think is very cute.

I like it, it's a nice alternative to Ava, which is overused. I much prefer Ava Grace to Ava Poppy, it flows better.

Love the name Ada, a band called the national do an amazing song called Ada, it made me fall in love with the name.

I'm not to keen on Ada I'm afraid. It is very grannyish and not in any way attractive. Grace is OK.

Ada could be a shortie for Adeline which IMO is a very lovely name.

My daughter is named Ada after the song by The National! Good call TheAccidentalExhibitionist.

REALLY hope it doesn't get popular. It's just inside the top 500 at the moment IIRC.

Sounds like a skanky old granny.

I think it would be really cruel when your older daughter has such a pretty name.

Hey, I'm usually first with the Lovelace connection.

OP love it.

Love the name Ada much nicer than Ava which is being used everywhere just now.

Ada is a hard name IMO and reminds me of several old ladies I knew in my childhood. I don't like it. Sorry.

Would you pronounce it ah - da or ay- da?
I like it but might be scared off because it makes me think lf this indescribably weird Nabokov novel called Ada or ardor, which I think is the russian pronunciation. OTOH Ada Lovelace was awesome.

I'm in two minds

It's not a pretty name but it is unusual now

I'm reminded of either an old granny or Ian Dury's song "Fucking Ada"
