Hi, we're still very early on but the topic of names raised its had last night.
I like : Harris Murray Isaac jorah heath etc for boys and Harriet Sylvie merryn for girls.
Dh apparently likes David and eilidh
I think his names are really quite overused and they really don't grab me.
Any suggestions as to a) names we might both agree on and b) how to convince him of not.
I think my problem is I work in a school so the names I like I've not really come across which I suppose is the appeal.
Thanks

IMO you can't really talk someone round on names you either like them or you don't. You'll just have to keep going till you find one you both like and maybe choose a middle name each or something.

Sorry. You're going to have to compromise on this one voice of experience

You could do what I did.
When the midwife delivered DS1 she said have you thought of any names and I shouted the loudest!!

Ah well I was hopeful! Guess its back to the drawing board. I know it has to be a name we're both happy with...trouble is he's likely to let me win and then I'll worry that he hates it etc

Wait till you have given birth and then ask, he would give you the world if you asked after watching that Wink

I have to say that I think a little David will be the only one in his class. David is a well known name but definitely not popular right now.

David and Eilidh aren't overused, I don't think. But if you don't like them, that has to be the cinched; and you need to accept that if he doesn't like "your" names, you have to find one you agree on. Reactions to names aren't rational, they're emotional, so can't be "talked around"
Good luck.

I only know of one child called David ,like Steven and Paul its a name that is hardly ever used now . FWIW not keen on your boys list ,have you considered Angus .

drownangels · 25/12/2012 00:50

David,Steven and Paul aren't hardly used
Really Floranomad? Really?

Not where I'm from.

Floralnomad · 25/12/2012 20:38

Not where I am ,I ran a beavers and cubs for 10 yrs and have 2 children of my own (teens) and only came across one baby David ,no Paul's or Stevens ! Having said that my husband is middle aged and has several friends called Steven.
