only 8 days to go - Connor or Conrad??

due Dec 29th, have 2 boys already (Christian and Samuel). Picked out 2 girls names that we like (Merryn or Meredith) and are a bit stuck for boys names - have William, but suddenly thinking of Connor or Conrad? What do you think?? Is Conrad a bit 1920s communist comrade?! Connor was in top 25 boys names last year, Conrad doesn't feature, but yet is easy to spell etc.
Impartial advice required! TIA.

We had selected Conor (original irish sp) as possible name for DC1 expected in Jan. Although I love the name I got cold feet in the last couple of weeks and changed our mind as it does seem to be very popular and the last few weeks I have seen a fair few chavvy parents out screaming "Conor don't touch that" etc in the supermarket. Have to confess it put me right off!

I think Conrad is a pretty cool alternative and I have to say I prefer it to William.

It was a compromise with the traditional Irish GPs. They wanted Seamus, I wanted Caleb.

Clown I LOVE the name Conor hence why it was our number one boys choice and it is popular for a reason. So it is a shame that some people are dragging it down!

Conrad is very cool. i would choose Conrad.

Conor is not chavy. It is a legend name for goodness sake. There are other cultures besides The British culture of kings, queens etc.

Conrad is not as classic. Bit smug perhaps. But I like it.

Gin I don't think anyone was denigrating any other culture here, even though a name may have specific culture background and history modern connotations and perceptions are an equally valid consideration.

William by a country mile. I do know a lovely Konrad though (not English). I know a Conner and a Connor in the same class and both are very spirited. Just prefer William.

People don't realise that's what they're doing, but there is a train of thought in the UK that any Irish name is a chav choice. And perhaps if that is how it is perceived then what is the difference? It's like James or Jack or Michael here.

Gin I hope not a we have Irish names picked for our DC . There are lots of English names that I would never used because in IMO they are too chavvy/posh/out there. I think it can apply regardless of the cultural background (for example see the thread on the name Ruby). Plus it is a good thing we don't all like the same names or life would be terribly confusing!

We've got Conrad picked out for if we ever have a boy. He'll be a tiny, icky bit German. It means something like 'wise counsel'. Connor's just a bit commonly used for my taste.

Conor. Gorgeous name, that's why it's popular. Hate the spelling with 2 Ns though, looks like a wrong Americanized version.

I think Conrad is more masculine, I would choose it over Conor!

ta for the comments! Seems Connor (or Conor) is more popular than Conrad, just. I guess we'd prob shorten either to Con. Kind of like the wild irish feel of Connor, and Conrad feels a bit more buttoned-up, but then, I am mega-preggers, so bit bonkers just now!
oh, and ShowofHands - William would be middle name if we go for Connor/Conrad, as was my paternal grandfather's name, as well as being rather classically nice!

I agree with that. Conrad is a great name!

And Conrad is nicer than William imo (which may well get teased with Willy).

I would stick with William as I think it's the nicest (by a long way). I would also rather avoid two of three boys having the same initial.

What about Cory?
