due Dec 29th, have 2 boys already (Christian and Samuel). Picked out 2 girls names that we like (Merryn or Meredith) and are a bit stuck for boys names - have William, but suddenly thinking of Connor or Conrad? What do you think?? Is Conrad a bit 1920s communist comrade?! Connor was in top 25 boys names last year, Conrad doesn't feature, but yet is easy to spell etc.
Impartial advice required! TIA.

They're quite different.
Conrad is fairly German. It has same origins as Kurt (my German FIL!)
Connor to me is an Irish name I wouldn't use unless I was Irish I think (which is not to say you shouldn't).
If you want to shorten to Con, have you considered Constant? Fabulous name, IMO, and a little bit different.

I like William too. Conal is a good alternative to Connor. The 2 "n"s is the Scottish way of spelling "Conor/Connor".

MerryLindor · 26/12/2012 11:50

Connor with two N is the Scottish spelling, not American.

I don't get this idea of a name being 'chav' or Connors all being 'spirited'

My DS is Connor (as you can likely tell by my defensiveness!) and he was recently termed a 'role model to his classmates' by his teacher

I don't think that Connor goes with your other children's names, but am not keen on Konrad. Konstantine is quite popular in Germany at the moment, I think.

MerryLindor · 26/12/2012 11:53

What do you think about Kilian?

Your other names are quite traditional and good in both German and English.

I'd stick to that.

Benedict. Sebastian.

ooh didn't know Connor (with two n's) was Scottish version.. even better for my 14 yr old Connor as his great grandfather was Scottish.. he was the only Connor in his year at primary. ds2 has two conors in his class in yr2
