So we are 3 weeks away from the due date and I think we are finally decided on names. Be good to see what you guys think.

Boy - Montgomery (Monty) Teddy William .....
Girl - Betsy Rose Zena .....

Cheers

Monty (Montgomery) William
Zena Rose

(Betsy and Teddy are pretty daft even as nn's, sorry. DD has a Teddy in some of her lessons, he is just as silly as you'd expect).

babydad · 17/12/2012 10:50

Why would you expect a Teddy to be generally a silly person? Slight generalisation.

Battlefront · 17/12/2012 10:58

Maybe the Teddy thing is a generalisation, but we have one a the school I work in and well....poor boy is away with the fairies most of the time. That's said affectionately, but it's also true.

What ridiculous things to say! Wow, just wow.

I'm actually giving up coming to forums for serious naming advice. I'm naming a third child and after 8 years of parenthood, I've learned that kids with outlandish names just become their names and make them theirs. Kids with chav names can be just as lovely, sweet and smart as any other kid (and so can their parents).

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, in short. Asking people for name advice is like asking strangers what your favourite colour should be.

That said, I think Monty and Betsy are lovely - hip, cool, great :)

Over and out Mumsnet . Will name my kid without any 'help' from you :) The daft replies above have sealed it for me.

MustafaCake · 17/12/2012 11:18

Love Monty William. Sorry but I really really dislike the name Teddy, it's too cutsy for me.

Love Betsy and either Rose or Zena but not both together, the 3 don't seem to flow so well IYSWIM?

LemonBreeland · 17/12/2012 11:21

Love Monty, but Teddy is a nn, not a real name.

Betsy is a bit cutesy. Could be Elizabeth so name has opportunity to be more grown up.

forevergreek · 17/12/2012 14:38

I think montague ( monty) flows a little better

GalaxyDisaStar · 17/12/2012 15:47

I quite like them.

Personally I wouldn't use a nickname like Teddy as a middle name unless it has family connections. I'd go for William. But I am firmly of the camp that thinks you can do what you like with middle names.

Betsy is a little cute for my preferences, but perfectly ok. I like Rose Zena. Bear in mind half the baby girls in Britain seem to have the middle name Rose. It is the Jane or Louise of its era. Just in case that bothers you (it wouldn't me for a middle name).

I love Montgomery. Tis on my list if I ever have the mythical third child (have two girls) we both talk about but neither of us can quite imagine the energy to actually have and raise!

GalaxyDisaStar · 17/12/2012 15:48

Durh. I meant I would go for Edward. Montgomery Edward William.

ChestnutsRoastingonaWitchesTit · 17/12/2012 16:05

I personally wouldn't ask for opinions on names I'd already decided on. Especially here, you're putting your most beloved, thoughtfully chosen names for your precious new baby in front of people who don't know you and don't have to be diplomatic, in fact they can be rude without taking any of the consequences, leaving you doubting your own careful judgement.

We've chosen the names for our impending arrival and the most satisfying thing is that I haven't seen the name on here at all.

OP you asked for people's opinions but are you really sure you want them?

I love Montgomery - classic and strong.
Betsy I find too 'cute' so dont like but that's just me personally. Love both zena and rose though.

RikersBeardisFresherthanSantas · 17/12/2012 17:34

startail your post makes you sound like an arse. Saying you think a name sounds silly is one thing, saying that someone's name makes THEM silly is something else.

That's like saying X is just as common as you'd expect, or just as stupid as you'd expect, and is incredibly judgy.

FWIW I know 2 Teddys (both Edward) who are not in the slightest bit silly. Both nice little boys.

Betsy is not so nice all the others are lovely though.

Merrycuckingfistmas · 17/12/2012 17:53

Montgomery is awful! Reminds me of the dog with glasses. Do you want your child to get bullied?

Betsy is ok I suppose, let's hope you have a girl.

YouCanBe · 17/12/2012 17:53

I don't like two middle names personally so I would lose Zena and Teddy.
But I really like Betsy and Monty!

HoratiaLovesBabyJesus · 17/12/2012 18:00

I think they're both great, but would personally use full names on birth certificate (Edward/Edmund/Edwin/Edgar/Theodore instead of Teddy, Elizabeth/Elspeth/Bethany/Bethan instead of Betsy, etc).

Good luck for the rest of your pgy.

blameitonthecaffeine · 17/12/2012 18:34

I love your boys name

not keen on Betsy and I'm not sure the three flow well (not that that matters especially). Think Zena Rose sounds awesome.

LolliLouLou · 17/12/2012 18:40

They are both fabulous names, congrats! And don't listen to people making stupid generalisations! Ill thought out ridiculous comments with nothing to substantiate them.

Leafmould · 17/12/2012 18:56

Not keen on Betsy. Like all the other names.

CheerfulYank · 17/12/2012 19:02

I think they're nice but would also use Edward or Theodore and Elizabeth or a variation thereof instead of Teddy or Betsy, because I like full names rather than nicknames.

Congrats! :)

Startail · 17/12/2012 19:14

Because Teddy not short for Edward is just wrong.
Especially as a name for a teenage boy, Ed fine, but not ted or teddy.

I know the name came before the bear, but to me it's a toy not a person. Especially as the only one I ever hear about is always mucking about.

I'm being flippant, been wrapping parcels to post which always makes me snappy, sorry.

MissPricklePants · 17/12/2012 19:21

I really like both names!

sparkle12mar08 · 17/12/2012 19:26

Zena Rose and Monty William are lovely - strong, classy and classic. Ditch the cutesy wutesy Teddy and Betsy though, they'll date dreadfully and really take the shine of the other far, far nicer names!
