...Amaya?

Little girl in DS's class is called this (her mum
Is Spanish) and DH and I both love it, which never happens!

Only concern is would people think it's just Maya so she'd have a lifetime of correcting them? Also what possible nicknames are there?

I think it's spelt Amaia?

One of my favourite Spanish names, I had a friend called Amaia and my sister has already Bagsy-ed it for her future baby!

I think it has a lovely meaning too?

We're part Spanish so it's nice to include that in our name choices.

She will have a lifetime of spelling it. Any number of nicknames I would imagine-the worst being Am. However-you can have that with many names.

ohfunnyface · 15/12/2012 07:58

Sorry if I'm talking about a totally different name!

I'm thinking of: ah-mi-yah

exoticfruits · 15/12/2012 07:59

Apparently it derives from Amaia and means 'high place'.

babyblabber · 15/12/2012 09:07

No it's Amaya as in Ah-Maya. Means high place according to my baby names app. Nickname thing worries me as it's bound to get shortened and probably to something I won't have thought of and will hate!

It would likely be Am in the way that Emily and Emma are Em.

I think that is a beautiful little girls name. Unusual and so pretty! x

There is a little girl at toddlers called Amaya. No one shortens it or has questioned it to my knowledge. She is a sweet little thing. Might get shortened to Amy but only if you want to, I don't think it shortens very well tbh so probably not. A pretty name, lovely meaning x
