Not sure whether DC1 will be male or female but have just noticed these names are among the few DH and I agree on....

.... would they get mercilessly teased at school?

For being an explorer/big purple dinosaur I mean.

Thoughts?

Kids will always find something to tease a kid about if they want to, but as I understand it kids are much more accepting now of unusual names than they were when our generation was growing up anyway (I don't have school-age DCs yet).

I think both Barney and Dora are perfectly fine names. You may be interested to know Barney was no. 565 in the baby name charts for England and Wales last year (62 babies) and Dora was no. 1168 (28 babies). I'm surprised they're both so low down actually. Other variants you might like:

Barnaby (no. 228, 214 babies)
Barnabas (no. 1688, 13 babies)

Isadora (no. 1168, 28 babies)
Theodora (no. 1196, 27 babies)
Pandora (no. 2150, 12 babies)

My favourites out of all of these names are Isadora and Barnaby.

I think Pandora is lovely. And I like Isadora too. Not sure if I am that keen on the short form Dora. I'm not very keen on the name Barney but I've heard a lot worse.

As somebody who shared a name with a (slightly less omnipotent) TV character from a UK kid's show in the 90s and got mildly teased by schoolmates over it (in a nice way but still a wee bit annoying), I like the idea that unusual names makes these things less of a novelty these days, thanks Alexander.

Also I love Barnaby, we've said we'd probably go with that as a full name. I really like Isadora too - hadn't thought of it. However -oh the irony - suspect poor girl would be tormented with DH and Aunties singing "Wizadora" theme at her all the time...

I love the name Barnaby, mainly because one of my best mates at school was called that.

I love Barnaby, because I have one (I may have mentioned it a few times on here Grin ) He's never been teased about his name, I suppose there's still time as he's only 5.

I like Dora too.

I've never actually seen Barney the Dinosaur so it never came to mind when I named him, I'm not even sure if it's still a popular programme, I don't think anyone's mentioned it to my boy bar my friends teenage son.
