I need suggestions for a boys name please!
I'm really struggling as I don't want something to common yet my favourites are Jack, Joseph and Harry! The only name we've come up with that's not on the most popular list is Austin, but I'm not sure...

I know a couple of Austins, 1 adult and 1 11 year old - it's a great name and highly unusual that I know two - that's just the way it goes sometimes. We were going to call my son Kerr which is fairly unusual, we went with a slightly different name but he ended up with a Kerr in his class! And despite Jack being really popular - there are no Jacks.

OK, how about ones that are a bit similar to your top choices? Like:

Jacob
Josh
Joel
Harvey
Oisin
Jonah
Zach

And how about:

Arthur
Seth
Morris
Ned
Laurie
Luke

??

...the thing the adult Austin loves most is that when he is a pub and someone shouts his name - he is reasonably certain that it is him they want.

I think Jack has peaked and is on the way down. I don't know any little Jacks.

The top name last year was given to less than 1% of the babies born. So, if you chose it, youd have to meet at least 100 other babies born that year before you meet another one.

People shouldnt bin their favourite names based on popularity - they are popular for a reason. This is the reason we end up in a world with babies called Fandango and Hashtag.

If you like Jack, then you could always go for John and you could use Jack or John, or go for Henry with Harry as an option NN

John is great. But Jack and Harry are SO SO COMMON around here that you might as well call him BOY! In our Scout group we have 4 Harrys, two of which share the same surname.

There are lots and lots of lovely classic names that aren't used widely (and I don't mean names like Fandango and Hashtag!) - have a look at the ONS lists outside of the top 100 names.

I like Jonah for a boy. I love Josepth!

Duncan of course. Alternatively Adrian, Gavin or Eric.
