Dylan?

This is our fav baby name at the mo (boy due in 7 weeks) but both sets of grandparents turned their noses up at it.

What do you ladies think? My girls have very unusual names but can't find a boys name we both like except Dylan, and Alfie but we decided there were far too many Alfies around.

There are two Dylans in my ds's class of 18 so pretty popular round here too...

I'm not that keen on it personally but if you love it then go for it!

Oh dear. It does bother me if a name is very popular, that's half the problem. I haven't heard of one for ages so thought it would be OK!

What I suggest is that you look at the ONS list of ALL boys names used last year - you will find lots of lovely classic underused names outside the top 100 or even top 250. Hope you find a name you love!

I have one. I think my mum was a bit when we named him but we didn't tell her until he was born so she couldn't really say anything. He is 2 now with surfer dude blond hair and it suits him down to the ground.

There are 3 in my nursery class atm, so very popular round here too.

I like Dylan. I like it spelled Dillon better though!

i have a Dylan. he is almost 8 and in a 60+yr group there are two dylans. its certainly not masssively popular but is well known.

Dylan is very popular atm, there are 6 in year 7 in one school I know.

We thought it was an unusual name but just in our local area met 3 boys and 1 dog also called Dylan. One memorable occasion we had 2 dogs and 1 boy called Dylan all in a tangle and doing a recall was quite difficult.

It's a nice welsh name though and it's not like there are hundreds in every class.

madame that shows that it was popular 11/12 yrs ago. it is commonish but certainly not all that common and i font know any little children called dylan which is what the op would be concerned about.

i think its in the top 50names? but still may not be a whole bunch of them in anyone class, i would guess it may be regional as well?

My Dylan is 17 and it got popular just afte ri named him.I live in Dublin.But i still love the name.

I think it's a nice name and not overly popular. I know 2 dylans (one spelt like that and one dhillon) and 2 Alfies so they seem of similar popularity to me though I know Alfie is much more popular really.

I tend to think of Alfie as quite a 'posh' name but maybe that's because the only two I know are Alfreds and I tend to assume they all are.
