What do you think?

Lovely name! Strong, classic and not overused.

Pendipidy · 02/12/2012 07:35

the bear. he is always going to get called it Wink

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 02/12/2012 07:36

Really like it. I know an adult Rupert and he gets Ru.

Shattereddreams · 02/12/2012 07:38

Love it.

mrsXsweet · 02/12/2012 08:40

It is an amazing name. My dh won't let me use it but friends are considering it for their dc- I will be so jealous if they use it!

ArtigeneAuberchoke · 02/12/2012 08:45

I like it but I slightly put off because I thick it screams "I'm posh or at least my parents wish they were". If it wasn't for that I'd use it.

MumOfTwoCats · 02/12/2012 12:22

Thanks for your replies! More positive than negative which is nice!

Amd we`re not posh or trying to be. Surname is pretty normal with no double barrell!

It was my Grandads name, I loooove it :D

RancerDoo · 02/12/2012 12:25

I like it. Am toying with it for DC3. It does make me think of Rupert Campbell Black though!

Southeastdweller · 02/12/2012 12:26

Second fave boys name after Toby. It's elegant and not that common, but depending on what type of school he'll end up going to if you do have a boy, I'd be mindful of any potential bullying because of the name, tbh.

MumOfTwoCats · 02/12/2012 12:31

I think its lovely too.

What would there be to bully about? and he would go to the local comp up the road!

And who is Rupert Campbell Black!?

and Ru and Bear already used with affection!

It could be a girl in the end of course!

ScumbagCollegeDropout · 02/12/2012 12:36

I don't like it.

Prefer Rufus.

Southeastdweller · 02/12/2012 12:38

Just speaking as someone with a 'posh' name who had a hard time at both my schools growing up.

shoobidoo · 02/12/2012 12:47

Great name!!

"I like it but I'm slightly put off because I thick it screams "I'm posh or at least my parents wish they were". If it wasn't for that I'd use it"

Why does it have to scream that? What if the parents simply like the name?

shoobidoo · 02/12/2012 12:49

What on earth is teaseworthy about Rupert to other children? I can see Will being teased with Willy or Benedict with Bendy Dick or Gabriel with Gayboy but I honestly don't think kids would find anything funny/odd/silly about Rupert. Or is it Rupert the Bear - even that is not a bad association imo!

Lebkuchenlover · 02/12/2012 13:11

Rupert is a great name! I know a 9 year old one, a lovely boy. I don't think he has ever been teased about his name - in fact I can't see anything teaseworthy about it Confused.

Nowadays our kids are in school with children from all over the world and are therefore used to much more name diversity than perhaps we did when at school.

MumOfTwoCats · 02/12/2012 13:15

I agree lebkuchen!

I think Rufus sounds 'posher' than Rupert!

I loved Rupert and Rufus (and Raife) but DH vetoed the lot and talked me into Tristan

kiwigirl42 · 02/12/2012 13:24

Is the slang term for an officer in the RAF which is why I think I don't really like it.

But your baby - call it what you want. One time you shouldn't give a shit what anyone else wants.

mysweetie · 02/12/2012 13:38

Like it!!

awhistlingwoman · 02/12/2012 13:49

I love Rupert. I liked Rupert, Rufus or Reuben for my DS. DH vetoed Rupert and he ended up as a Reuben but I still call him 'Ru' (or more properly 'Reu' I suppose!) and 'Reu Bear.' Good name for cute baby nicknames and I think it is a lovely, elegant name for an adult.

Do kids still know who Rupert the Bear is I wonder? Seemed like he was a 'vintage' kind of thing in the 1980s when I was growing up! Perhaps he's had a come back!

catgirl also REALLY love Tristan but was also vetoed by DH Name of secondary school heart throb so suspect jealousy issues

KatyAnn28 · 02/12/2012 17:02

Absolutely LOVE it!! We are toying between Rupert and Elliot for our first born son Smile

Snowflakepie · 02/12/2012 17:13

Rupert the bear is on channel 5 in the mornings, so I think kids would know it, but its a sweet show so not a bad thing. The name is fine, I don't think it's posh. I couldn't use it because of one at toddlers whose mother hollers rooooooopeeeeeee across the room instead of going and sorting out her vile offspring. Don't let that bother you tho.

MollyMurphy · 02/12/2012 17:16

not my cuppa - I agree Rufus is nice though. if you like it that is all that matters....someone will always hate your name choice.

awhistlingwoman · 02/12/2012 21:22

Oooo snowflake didn't realise that Rupert was on channel 5! Quite glad to hear he is still going as I was always fond of him as a kid.

Makes mental note never to scream rooooooooobeeeeeeeee across the room

Rufus is lush. The midwife misheard me and thought I'd said Rufus and DS was a red head at birth so would have really suited. However, Reuben had been agreed by that point!
