Al. I have known two Als.

colditz · 26/11/2012 14:47

The Alice I know gets called Malice quite a lot. It suits her.

MamaMary · 26/11/2012 14:47

Al.

HRH008 · 26/11/2012 14:49

I´m an Alice, my nickname is Fred.
I´m not joking.

LaCiccolina · 26/11/2012 14:50

WtfiA? (Song title)

More seriously, leecy, alli, Lycia

Struggling with why ur struggling with this? I've only given it two secs thought!

NoTeaForMe · 26/11/2012 14:50

Licey?

Jins · 26/11/2012 14:52

The Alices that I know don't get shortened

NoTeaForMe · 26/11/2012 14:52

Well La I did say, anything but Alli. Lycia isn't really from Alice, surely that's a lazy way of saying Alicia?!

I don't mind Lissy actually!

What does everyone think of Alice in general?

OP posts:
HRH008 · 26/11/2012 14:54

I´ve never had a nickname that actually came from my first name ... Al is the only one I´ve ever heard of, but it didnt stick with me, mostly because it was a common nickname for Alistair, and I grew up with a lot of Als. Infact, my mum chose the name Alice because you couldnt really shorten it.

I regularly get called Alison though, which is irritating.

Do you WANT a name that can be shortened?

HRH008 · 26/11/2012 14:55

I´ve always loved my name.

FellatioNelson · 26/11/2012 14:57

Lissy.

(Not Licey - that's awful!!!)

NoTeaForMe · 26/11/2012 15:01

Neither my husband or I have a name that can be shortened nd our daughters name can't be shortened but kind of sounds like a shortened name already. I like Alice because it's different to my daughters but don't know if it feels more formal?!

Don't even know if that makes sense and I've typed 'shortened' a lot!

OP posts:
Frontpaw · 26/11/2012 15:07

Short names are often lengthened (I worked with a Lucy/Lucifer).

NoTeaForMe · 26/11/2012 15:10

I'd hate it to be lengthened to Alison...I love Alice and loathe Alison - is that likely?!

OP posts:
Frontpaw · 26/11/2012 15:14

More likely to be Ally or AllyPally.

The problem with nicknames is that you never quite know where they will go. Mine is nothing like my real name, but add one sister who couldn't get her mouth around the real name or the shortened version, and voila!

chocolateicecream · 26/11/2012 16:11

Bear
Growly Bear
Grizzly Bear
Boo Bear

NoTeaForMe · 26/11/2012 16:19

Am I missing something chocolate ?!

HRH008 · 26/11/2012 16:27

The Alison thing does happen, mostly abroad though (but as I am living abroad it happens all the bloody time!)

You get a bit fed up of the Alice in Wonderland jokes and the "Who the fuck is Alice" stuff but on the other hand, it´s classic, very pretty but not too flowery and just unusual enough. As I said, I´ve always loved it.

NoTeaForMe · 26/11/2012 16:31

'Who the Fuck is Alice' and 'Alice the camel' are concerns to be honest!

Alice in Wonderland doesn't bother me, it's not like she's horrible is it!

Frikadellen · 26/11/2012 16:34

I know a Alice who is called allall no clue why.. the other Alice (I know) is called Alice.

Pretty name

greensnail · 26/11/2012 16:37

My alice gets Ally Bally Bee or just Ally Bally in the family. Other people don't shorten it at all.

It's also is quite different and more formal than my other daughter's name but I still feel like they go well together and really suit their very different personalities.

reastie · 26/11/2012 16:39

DD is an ALice and I either lengthen it to ALice pops or else shorten it to Al.
