Just want to get a feel for what preconceptions people would have about a little Juno? What kind of background does she come from etc.

I would just think you liked the film tbh not sure what you mean about parents.Confused

skaen · 25/11/2012 16:21

Well her father ate her siblings except for her little brother who forced him to regurgitate the lot.

Or her parents just watched the film.

AitchDee · 25/11/2012 16:25

Don't be so damned ridiculous. It could be anything. Is this the new Mumsnet trend?

Juno's parents are both drug addicted squatters who haven't worked a day in their lives.

HTH.

SchrodingersSexKitten · 25/11/2012 16:31

Juno's father works in an ad agency earning loads of dosh and working long hours.

Juno's mother is a willowy beauty who gave up a lucrative career in marketing to be a SAHM.

Nicknamegrief · 25/11/2012 17:15

Forgive me but should it read, 'What do Juno's parents do?' Or, 'What does Juno's Mother do?'

In a Marian Keyes book I read I'm sure the Mother was a surgeon and the father a banker if that helps. I tend to think of it as a intellectuals name despite the film (which I enjoyed).

scarlettsmummy2 · 25/11/2012 17:44

Makes me think of London media or creative types, left wing, middle class.

lljkk · 25/11/2012 17:46

Juno: means parents are about 75th+ percentile on the weird scale.
They may be merely posh or they may be hippies, but either way, they are well deviant from conventional.

Keep in mind I'm about 95th percentile on Weird Scale, but I don't like to advertise the fact and thus give DC boring names like "John" and "Emma".

whoopdewhoop · 25/11/2012 17:55

Juno's parents spend their time worrying about how other people perceive them rather than how happy they are with their own choices. They think more about their child as an accessory to their self-publicism on facebook etc than as a human being in their own right.

Give your child a name you like. Not a name which you think makes you look like someone you aspire to be.

Karbea · 25/11/2012 17:58

Wasn't she the young teenage girl who got pregnant?

EddieIzzardIsOrange · 25/11/2012 18:03

They are a youth worker and a maths student

God how I'd love that to be true!

ConfusedandBemused · 25/11/2012 20:08

Actually whoopdewhoop I asked because people make presumptions about people based on a variety of things....names being one of them, I don't want my child to be saddled with a name that evokes negative presumption about his/her background etc. it has nothing to do with how I want people to perceive me.....but thank you for proving my point that there are small minded people that make assumptions about someone based on very little information!

They don't know how to write grammatically.

EchoBitch · 25/11/2012 20:36

What do Juno's parents do.

Not does.

What does Juno's Mum do.

What does Juno's Dad do?

What do Juno's parents do?

CocktailQueen · 25/11/2012 20:37

They are pretentious (and have no grasp of grammar).

EchoBitch · 25/11/2012 20:37

D'you know,i don't care.

They can do what they want.

ConfusedandBemused · 25/11/2012 20:45

EchoBITCH maybe you should look back on your last post, not exactly 100% correct is it? Ok I made a grammatical error.....oh how will I ever live it down? Oh wait....yeah, I'm over it! Wink

Grammar police are active tonight. Well done, all.

TryDubai · 25/11/2012 21:17

Okay I'll bite...but only cos it is one of my favourite films and I was seriously thinking of it as a middle name.

Juno is indeed the teenager who gets pregnant but is sassy, intelligent and funny.

Her father (the wonderful JK Simmons) installs heating systems or some such so blue collar work who happens to like roman mythology

Her stepmum does nails and to the snarky 'ultrasound technician' basically says Yes and I'm a nail technician, doesn't mean you can judge my dumbass stepdaughter or words to that effect

As the lead character describes it, the goddess Juno was supposed to be 'very beautiful but really mean, like Diana Ross'
Grin

I have never taught a Juno.
I would assume parents choosing that name had

a) excellent taste in film
b) an interest in mythology or
c) a June baby but thought June was old-fashioned

If I didn't know and love the movie I might previously have thought hmm pretentious, much but would think that of any mythological names (if I had judgy pants on!)

hth

persephoneplum · 26/11/2012 11:26

I really hate that the film ruined one of my favourite girl names of all time. I remember first hearing they were bringing out the film and my heart sank to my feet.

Lucky I had three boys!

ConfusedandBemused · 26/11/2012 12:52

persephoneplum yeah when the film first came out I thought well that's the end of that name option for me as I thought it was going to get super popular....but it's still an extremely underused name a few years on. I actually don't mind the film association tbh it's from the play Juno and the Paycock that I got my inspiration Smile
