What do you all think of Ashley?

Boy or girl?

threepiecesuite · 24/11/2012 22:00

It's better than Ashleigh. That's about all I can say about it.
It seems wrong on both sexes.

Oh definitely boy. There is nothing feminine about it.

Ah we'll my friend just called her dd Ashley, so I'll duck out now!

feetheart · 25/11/2012 08:58

DS(7) is the short version - not Ashley. We have never had the smoking connection mentioned. I am a little unsure how the tree thing will pan out but I doubt he will let it affect him - he likes his name and loved the ash cloud news headlines when the Icelandic volcano was in full swing :)

If YOU like it go for it.

I think that all names that end in ley have "gone to the boys" in America. Or will do. Those American baby name wizards said so. Even Stanley! they think it is cool for girls, just whatever you do don't give it to a boy!

So if you are going to use it I wouldn't give it to a boy. I prefer Aislinn.

ladymia · 25/11/2012 11:03

I think it's a girl's name personally

B1ueberries · 25/11/2012 11:03

gone to the girls I meant!

B1ueberries · 25/11/2012 11:04

OP I do like names like Kim, Jesse, Sandy, Sacha for boys though.

threepiecesuite · 25/11/2012 11:24

I teach 3 Ashleys, all girls.

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/11/2012 13:52

I've never met a female Ashley (I'm 24).

I prefer it on a man/boy personally.

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/11/2012 13:53

Oh tell I lie,I did meet an Ashlea (dodgy spelling!) once.

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/11/2012 13:54

Ashlea was a girl...main point of that post missed! Blush

manicinsomniac · 25/11/2012 14:47

I quite like it for either a boy or a girl.

In the UK I thought the convention was that Ashley was a boy and Ashleigh was a girl

In the US Ashley, Ashlee, Ashlie, Ashly, Ashleigh, Ashlea etc all seem to be for a girl. Not sure if they use it for boys at all.

I've only ever known one Ashley (a boy) who was a couple of years younger than me. He was (in my 7 year old eyes) they naughtiest boy who'd ever lived and the poor kid got blamed for everything on our street. It was always "ummmmm, Naughty Ashley must have did it". Sad!

hjtunny · 26/11/2012 21:16

makes me think of Ashley Peacock the ex Corrie character who was a bit wet really!

StellaNova · 26/11/2012 21:18

Makes me think of Gone With The Wind. Whenever I hear the name Ashley I think of it said in a Southern drawl "Ohhh Ashlaaaaaaaaaay".
