We used the modern spelling but like the name because of its meaning Elf Counsel as well as its trad Englishness. Also really like that he can choose a nn from it.

Any ideas for his little brother?

Taliesin.

I love this name.

history here

I think it would go well with Alfred and the nn Tal or Tally is super gorgeous.

George? Good royal names :)

Æthelwulf. Wolfie for short.

Thank you, I love Taliesin & AEthelwulf (I should so work out how to do the AE thing if I'm gonna continue down this path). There's already a cousin George.

There's a Saxon name table pddarkages.pbworks.com/w/page/15205921/Saxon%20Name%20Tablehere so you can break them all down and see what they mean

Thanks so much everyone. We both like Tristan (rather than Tristram) but always thought it didn't have a nn & that put us off (we like nns) - could we get away with Stan? (squoosh we do call Alfred Alf).

ImpYCelyn, Titwald's hilarious! (Actually, I think I'd prefer it to Oswald - Moseley is too strong an association I think.)

I agree re Moseley.

I know a Tristan, he goes by Triss.
