I heard a woman in the park calling her little girl this (really really cute little one, about 3). If you'd asked me before that if I liked the name I would have said a definite 'noooo'. But now I think it could grow on me. What do people think?

Nooo

YDdraigGoch · 20/11/2012 13:13

Glenda - the wicked witch of the west - absolute no no (and not just because of the Oz connection!)

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 20/11/2012 13:14

Glinda was the Good Witch of the North actually.

Ahem. As you were.

YDdraigGoch · 20/11/2012 13:17

oops Blush

Still don't like the name Glenda though!

Glenda Jackson. It's not my usual taste, but I don't mind it actually. I can imagine it growing on me. It's quite a strong name; in a good way.

I thought of the Glenda Jackson thing as well. But it sounded so pretty when it was attached to this gorgeous little girl with a mop of curls. I think, as old lady names go, its much nicer than some of the ones that are currently back in vogue.

Glinda (not Glenda) is the good witch

mitimit96 · 19/01/2026 05:26

My name is Glenda, and I happen to love my name. Also, I love when people get super excited when I say "Glenda, like the good witch." (yes, I know her name is Glinda ahaha)

DanDin · 19/01/2026 10:34

Glenda Jackson or Sophie's mother in Rownd a Rownd.
Also Glenda McKay who was in Emmerdale.

I wouldn't say I like or dislike it. At least it's a bit different, but it would have been popular when names like Linda and Brenda were all the rage.

Does anyone else know the comedy Superstore?

Glenda makes me think of the character Glen in drag.

Marge could sound pretty on a gorgeous child.

On your average kid, I would say neither Marge nor Glenda is a good choice.
