DD1 needs a good, Catholic saint's name for her confirmation. She would like something different, but honourable.

Philomena
Dymphna
Alacoque

Also there are not many Bernadettes around nowadays, that could be due a revival.

This website lists female saints names. There are plenty there that will help you avoid the ever popular Mary, Rose, Theresa and Bernadette Grin

Is there a particular interest that your daughter has? There may possibly be a patron saint that has a name that means something to her as a person.

TheWoollybacksWife · 08/11/2012 22:28

Cross post Grin

Cecilia
Joan
Zita

Thank you. She loves reading, musical instruments and fashion. I doubt there's a patron saint of fashion though!

Thewoollybackswife has a good idea. E.g., I loved animals when I was a child so I took my confirmation name after St Francis of Assisi. I still love animals and I'm training to be a teacher so I think St Francis is having an influence on me. He was also barking mad by all accounts Wink

DIddled · 08/11/2012 22:36

Cecelia is I think the saint of music?

ThePathanKhansWitch · 08/11/2012 22:36

St Cecilia patron st of muscians!

ThePathanKhansWitch · 08/11/2012 22:37

X post diddled.

DIddled · 08/11/2012 22:37

Gemma is a saints name- which did surprise me!

PlaySchool · 08/11/2012 22:38

How about Pauline or Paula? www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint.php?n=117. St Paul is Paton St of the clothing ind.

LoveBox · 08/11/2012 22:39

I had Colette as mine (googled and she is the patron saint of expectant mothers!)

DIddled · 08/11/2012 22:41

I love Colette!
Ooh I love a good ole Catholic thread:)

SaidFlorence · 08/11/2012 22:43

Genevieve, patron st of Paris (fashion)?

EdgarAllansPo · 08/11/2012 22:46

pmsl at Sexburger.

UltraBOF · 08/11/2012 22:50

I was going to say Genevieve- I fancied that one myself. My mum turned her nose up though, and I went with Theresa, her mum's name- there are a few saints with that name, all with beautiful stories attached. I particularly liked the one who ascended into Heaven as roses showered down.

UltraBOF · 08/11/2012 22:51

The image here, top right is what I remember from my book of saints.

pikesy1 · 08/11/2012 22:52

The school would pound her face if she mentioned fashion but funny thought!

Ooh, Cecilia is lovely- I think my mum chose that because of the music connection.

I think it's nice to go with an association, rather than just the sound of the name. It's a bit more reflective, which is the point, and it's not like you ever actually use the name.

wigglesrock · 08/11/2012 22:54

I girl I knew went with Paschal (I'm not sure how she spelt it), I'm a Margaret, was she born on a Saints Day with a decent name?

mysteryfairy · 08/11/2012 22:54

When my DSs got confirmed I noticed a couple of girls took Anastasia which I had never realised was a saint's name. I think I would have loved that when I was 14.

I went for Helena as I was a massive Evelyn Waugh fan. I haven't read his Helena novel for a long time but still very happy with my choice.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 08/11/2012 22:55

Had to go and google Sexburger.

As you were.

pikesy1 · 08/11/2012 22:58

She loves Genevieve, I'm just not sure I can concoct a sufficiently Catholic motive for it.
