DD1 needs a good, Catholic saint's name for her confirmation. She would like something different, but honourable.

I had a male saint's name and so did my sister, so it might not have to be a female saint that she chooses.

TheWoollybacksWife · 08/11/2012 23:02

I honestly have no idea what DD2 told school as the reason she chose Helen. It is highly unlikely that she told them it was because her father was born in St Helens and is a massive Saints fan

Her friend chose Phoebe - because her older sisters had chosen Rachel and Monica.

mmmmsleep · 08/11/2012 23:03

Ethelreda...patron saint of teenage virgin girls. Tee hee that made the bishop blush when i told him who she was. Not a bad thing to aim for?!

mmmmsleep · 08/11/2012 23:04

Do google her...certainly an honorable girl

UltraBOF · 08/11/2012 23:05

Hahaaaaa, loving the stories behind Phoebe and Ethelreda Grin

UltraBOF · 08/11/2012 23:07

Genevieve was a vegetarian, if that helps.

DIddled · 08/11/2012 23:08

Celine?

Wandastartup · 08/11/2012 23:10

Hinnyburga( Northumbrian I think)

MaryZezItsOnlyJustNovember · 08/11/2012 23:13

Oh God [sigh]

The memories.

The embarrassment.

The weird and ugly saints names that are allowed Shock

Try here They are (almost) all awful.

Wandastartup · 08/11/2012 23:14

Think I've misremembered her from my days of choosing. Can't find that name in the lists!

Wandastartup · 08/11/2012 23:15

Maybe it was St Ethelburga of Barking( who was Northumbrian!)

pikesy1 · 08/11/2012 23:22

Haha I want to change my own name to Ethelreda! Is Phoebe a saint? #badcatholic

Here you go St Phoebe

sashh · 09/11/2012 02:51

AuntAda

I went to school with two of the names on your list.

Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of lace makers?

I've just googled Dymphna - I don't think I would pick that

AuntAda · 09/11/2012 08:38

Oh, and how could I forget: Perpetua.

I am on a roll here. Grin

AuntAda · 09/11/2012 08:39

Fidelma.

CelticPromise · 09/11/2012 08:47

Jacinta. Not sure if she is strictly a saint but I know someone who picked her.

Cecilia is a nice one.

JakeBullet · 09/11/2012 08:53

I have Martha as mine....chose it as an adult when I was received into the Catholic Church. Love her as she is like me....so busy she could not always see the bigger picture.....but did in the end.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 09/11/2012 10:22

I choose Clare, i was taught by poor Clares.Wish i,d have been more inventive!

Perhaps i should have has Sexburger.#badcatholic.

SaidFlorence · 09/11/2012 10:35

From Wikipedia re Genevieve: "She was born in Nanterre and moved to Paris after encountering Germanus of Auxerre and Lupus of Troyes and dedicated herself to a Christian life.[1] In 451 she led a "prayer marathon"[2] that was said to have saved Paris by diverting Attila's Huns away from the city. "

I'm sure would pass as a good reason...she can keep the fashion motive in her head :)

badtime · 09/11/2012 11:25

From the list of saints linked to on the other page, I particularly liked 'Attracta' and 'Lasar'.

A friend of mine chose 'Alexis' as her confirmation name because she loved Joan Collins in 'Dynasty'.

TessOfTheBaublevilles · 09/11/2012 12:37

My friend's is Anatolia, which I think is unusual, but not too "out there" either.

blueberryboybait · 09/11/2012 12:43

I chose Marguerite she was was cannonized the year I was confirmed.

rainbow2000 · 09/11/2012 14:41

I chose Bernadette what was i thinking

kenanddreary · 09/11/2012 17:08

Clare (or Claire/Chiara) is the patron saint of television and was a follower of St Francis.

Agnes is the patron saint of youth/girls
