Lovely name! :)

QuietNinjaTardis · 07/11/2012 13:55

I like it. Reminds me of buffy the vampire slayer though.

Gwennan · 07/11/2012 14:28

Quite like it but it's not my favourite version of Ann. Think that honour goes to either Anna, Annabel, Anaïs or Anouk!

MolotovBomb · 07/11/2012 15:41

I absolutely love Anya. It has a strong yet very feminine tone. Isn't it the Russian equivalent of 'Anne', therefore meaning 'grace/graceful'?

MolotovBomb · 07/11/2012 15:43

Yeah, I'm bang-on

What about Aine?

lovethesun1 · 07/11/2012 15:48

Love it!

TheEnglishWomanInTheAttic · 07/11/2012 15:53

Its nice, we live in Germany and I only know of it spelt Annja - is Anya and Anglicism or the spelling from another language?

diddl · 07/11/2012 16:06

I also like it.

ILovePonyo · 07/11/2012 16:09

I have an Anya! Grin I often get asked if my family is Russian/eastern european as it is quite a popular name there though (the answer is no)

LadyMargolotta · 07/11/2012 16:10

Anya is an acceptable spelling in many countries, so is Anja. I knew a german Anya. It's normally a diminutive of Anne.

Pretty name.

newby2 · 07/11/2012 16:11

Anya is Russian and also from Sanskrit meaning unstoppable. Believe me, if it's a girl it'll be a whirlwind from the movements in the womb!

Aine is nice but a completely different name and we aren't Irish so no one will be able to pronounce it here! I don't think there's an Anglicism for it apart from Anna.

Gwennan, I hear you but it's not Ann I'd like to name her or any derivative. Anya is closer to Anna and a little more interesting we think?

I think Anya is lovely.

surroundedbyblondes · 07/11/2012 17:30

Beautiful!

aufaniae · 07/11/2012 19:35

Love the name Anya.

Anouk has been a favourite of mine for a while too :)

wishiwasonholiday · 07/11/2012 19:37

I know of a dog called Anouk so that name makes me think of her. Anya is lovely.

Yama · 07/11/2012 19:40

Love, love, love it!

If ds had been a dd he would've been Anya. Well, if I would've had to persuade dh but I reckon I could've.

VolumeOfACone · 07/11/2012 19:51

It is a great name. :)

JambalayaCodfishPie · 07/11/2012 19:54

V v v nice. :)

MaryAstor · 07/11/2012 20:36

Now the issue with this name is the pronounciation.

Are you going for Ahh-nyah or Ann-yah? And do you care if she gets called the other by people sometimes?

ecuse · 07/11/2012 20:43

Love it

newby2 · 07/11/2012 21:30

Mary- good point. Ann-yah ideally but I'm not some-one who's bothered by prnounciation by people. As long as it sounds near to the name it's fine with us. Different accents- different pronunciations.

diddl · 07/11/2012 21:41

Some people pronounce it Ahh-nyah??!!

MaryAstor · 07/11/2012 22:08

Yeah, I know an Anya pronounced 'Ahh-nyah'. (Possibly better rendered phonetically as 'Arn-yer' now I look at it)

LoveYouForeverMyBaby · 07/11/2012 22:57

I would pronounce it "ahhn yah" like the buffy character.
