Warning: hyphenated name question (Something-Joy)

Title says it all, really. I know the views on hyphenated names but I'm still thinking about one.

I'm wondering about something I could hyphenate with Joy, a family name.

Or should I just not go there?

I know a Maria Joy! I think it's nice!

Amelia-joy?

do it if you like it. Fashions change and people really have got to stop letting others dictate what names or styles of names they should or shouldn't have.

I came on to suggest Amelia-Joy, but see it's already been done! Names with a similar feel though -

DD1 was going to be Amelia Joy, again not hyphentaed

You don't need the hyphen to use both names if you prefer not to.

I know a few girls that go by 'double names' and some don't have a hyphen.

They are all generally known by the full name and occasionally just the first part, hyphen or not.

Obviously down to your own personal preference.

I agree that Claudia-Joy, Maria-Joy and Romona-Joy sound nice. Three syllables works well for the first name I think.

I love the name Gemvieve, but don't think it works as a hyphenated name.

Sorry, but where I live hyphenated names don't have positive connotations.

I wanted Mirabel for DD1 but XH said no and this coming DD2 is even more of a miracle/marvel than DD1 was....

Oh I love Ramona-Joy! Ramona was my no 1 choice for DD's name but DH wasn't having it.

Joy is a lovely name, I think the g-j sound is a little too much in Genevieve-Joy.

I like Ophelia-joy (but then I just love the name Opelia)

Thanks honeytea- I have such a love/hate relationship with Ophelia. It was also on the list for DD1 but XH vetoed it (and this I could understand) on the "I feel yer" basis. So when I read Ophelia-Joy, I hear "I feel yer joy!". In XH's accent. Not good.

By the way, I like Elvin - I can see why some posters thought it sounded feminine, but I personally like softer boys names. If you like it, go for it (and I know I should post this on your thread, but I'm being lazy )

I don't like hyphenated names at all probably as I have one have had a fair bit of teasing over the years. Leave out that little hyphen just have two names, some computer forms don't even recognise the hyphen causes loads of grief

Mia-Joy would roughly translate as 'my joy'. I think that's quite nice :)
