Still trying to finalise our girls names short list (keep changing my mind!) & not seen any threads specifically on this name.

What do you think? Is it OTT or nice? Shortened to Emmie. Would be with, probably, Juliet or Elise as mn.

Like it.

Mollydoggerson · 02/11/2012 18:27

I really dislike it.

How about Emer.

bangersmashandbeans · 02/11/2012 18:28

Sounds like a Disney character

Jemma1111 · 02/11/2012 18:31

I don't like it at all

Yika · 02/11/2012 18:32

Dear oh dear. Are you a celebrity?

BananaPhone · 02/11/2012 18:37

Hmmm.

Honestly? I dislike this because it is the kind of name that little girls give to their overfed pet cats, or the kind of pseudonym that porn magnates give to the women they exploit.

In and of itself it's not a horrible name though, IYKWIM?

If you want Emmie, could you not go with Emmaline? (Thus after a feminist, with way more positive associations.)

BananaPhone · 02/11/2012 18:37

Emmaline Juliet (NN Emmie). That's quite nice, actually.

StrawberryMojito · 02/11/2012 18:39

Emmie is quite nice, Emerald is horrid.

BoyMeetsWorld · 02/11/2012 19:25

Uh oh looks like that's a no-no then? (or we pick a name that's unpopular!)

Our other options are:
Arabella
Emilia (not pronounced Amelia!)
Esmeralda
Juliana

Do you prefer any of these or like Emerald better?

PhyllisDoris · 02/11/2012 19:28

They're all quite "fancy" aren't they? Are you belonging to the royal family? Smile

squoosh · 02/11/2012 19:28

It's very ummmm, glitzy.

If you were looking for a name for a drag act I'd say go for it.

BananaPhone · 02/11/2012 19:29

Hey, look, if you love Emerald then go for it! Daft to listen to the throwaway opinions of random folk on t'internet to the extent that you abandon a name you really want.

I prefer Esmeralda to Emerald, though that does lose the Emmie NN you like... I would go for Emilia with NN Emmie.

PickledFanjoCat · 02/11/2012 19:29

Emilia or emmie.

Emerald is a bit wrong!

PickledFanjoCat · 02/11/2012 19:30

I like all your other ones.

I particularly like emilia.

LynetteScavo · 02/11/2012 19:30

I like it shortened to Emmie. But not Emma (to usual for me)

It's a bit turn of the century parlor maid, so I like Emerald Juliet better than Emerald Elsie.

Elise Juliet, or Juliet Elsie are both very nice.

LynetteScavo · 02/11/2012 19:31

People said Ruby was a bit wrong 14 years ago when I was expecting DC1. Now it's very popular!

PhyllisDoris · 02/11/2012 19:38

Ruby is horrible too - very chav.

BoyMeetsWorld · 02/11/2012 19:41

Really??? I know a few little Ruby 's and they are far from chavvy.

Lol not really looking for a 'posh' name, just like all of these. Would be going with a French surname if that makes any difference - & half the time pronounced with a French accent due to family!

OP posts:
PickledFanjoCat · 02/11/2012 19:42

Of course they are not "chavvy" whatever that's supposed to mean Hmm

manicinsomniac · 02/11/2012 19:52

I think Arabella Juliet is absolutely beautiful

Emerald is okay but I think I'd go for Juliet Emerald rather than the other way around. There were 13 baby Emeralds born last year so, while unusual, it's not totally unheard of.

Leafmould · 02/11/2012 20:05

Love it.

StrawberryMojito · 02/11/2012 20:30

Emilia or Juliana.

Rhubarbgarden · 02/11/2012 20:51

They're all a bit long and fussy for my taste. I guess at least with Esmeralda you could shorten to Esme. She would spend her life being asked where the hunchback was though.

Pocketrocket11 · 03/11/2012 15:51

I'm going to have to NC after this but my name is Emerald and I've never had any problems with it. I can't tell someone my name without being told how unusual and pretty it is and I tend to be known my family and friends as Em/Emmy so I say if you really like it then go for it.

ggirl · 03/11/2012 16:04

Hmm my initial thought was..lovely name!
