We like Rowan - what else might we like?

DC2 due in December.

We are really struggling to love any names this time round. For a girl we have shortlisted

Kate
Georgia
Lyla
Phoebe
Gracie
Emily
Isobel/Isabelle

For a boy we like

Rowan

but would love some other suggestions, as we didn't have a very long longlist to begin with. DH likes Charlie, I like Daniel, but neither is really grabbing us.

What can you suggest?

My dd would have been Rowan if her father hadn't been a shameless, poopoo head meaniepie promise breaker. She is Grace, and her little brother is Patrick. Any good?

Gwennan · 31/10/2012 15:53

To me, Rowan is a masculine yet gentle-sounding name.

I know there are well known male Rowans, but to me (maybe cos I'm in Scotland), Rowan is a girl's name. Sounded like the tree. Both dds have a Rowan (f) in their class, she's one of dd1s best friends. Just a thought if you're north of the border!

Dinosaurdrip · 31/10/2012 16:14

Ds1 is Rowan and ds2 is Sebastian. We are thinking is Sophia for dd1 due 23/12. For boys we also liked: Reuben, Aiden, dillon, Toby, Eli.

I think Rowan is a fabulous name (yes slightly biased) but it really is and whenever anyone asks what DS name is Rowan always gets a positive response. Unlike Sebastian which apparently sounds like a gay hairdresser. Confused

breadandhoney · 31/10/2012 18:36

Wow, so many here I hadn't considered.

Dino we obviously have very wonderful similar taste. DH and I like Sebastian but it is too long with our surname.

I like Reuben, Ethan and Alexander but all have been used by others we know. James is likely to be the middle name.

I do like Noah. It may have togo back on the list, although it is perhaps a little too popular. I know, I know, Sophia is near the top of the charts!

There were only 10 baby boys called Rowan where we live in 2011. Will check girls names list, although I don't think it will popular with girls either.

Any thoughts on our girls name shortlist?

halloweeneyqueeney · 31/10/2012 19:45

I think James is a fantastic name, it'd be on our list for sure if it wasn't already "taken" on all sides

breadandhoney · 31/10/2012 19:53

bump

burleyburley · 31/10/2012 19:59

I have a Rowan and DD due in 7 weeks will be Lydia. If she surprises us and turns out to be a boy she'll be Hugh Alexander or maybe Hugo.

Other names considered

Hester (hetty)
Jemima
Matilda
Beatrix
Coralie

Simeon
Hector
Guy
Edgar

Of your girls list I think phoebe is best with Sophia.

Mollydoggerson · 31/10/2012 20:08

Some others:
Edward
Elliott
Henry
George

survivingautumn · 01/11/2012 18:24

I think of Rowan as a male name and it's lovely!

I also like most of MarshmallowFarm's list above - some really nice and similar types of names in there.

I like Phoebe the most out of your girls names - the others, although they are all nice are a bit popular for me.

BuntyPenfold · 02/11/2012 08:44

I know seven girls and women called Rowan, and one boy.

Three of the girls are Rowan Elizabeth.

biscuitracer · 03/11/2012 17:41

If you like rowan you should try sailin, surfin, divin or swimmin.
