I'm thinking of calling my next daughter coriander, what do you all think?

Reminds me of the Sally Gardner book 'I Coriander', which is GREAT!

But I would not call a baby this name. Nope. Never. No way.

Silibilimili · 26/10/2012 20:53

Ahhh no. It's horrible.

MegTheCat · 26/10/2012 21:11

Lovely name, reminded me of a poem www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/180333 - the bit that goes: Coriander, sweet pomander, good Cassander..(it's from the 15th century so some of the references may be a bit obscure). I'd shorten it to Cory (prob sounds just the same as Corrie but less reminiscent of coronation street)
She can always change it to a boring normal name if she really hates it. My friend called her dd Ananda - beautiful, unusual name she thought. Dd disagreed and once she was old enough told everyone her name was Amanda.

baskingseals · 26/10/2012 21:54

i've got mixed feelings about this name.

op would you like to be called Coriander?

squoosh · 26/10/2012 21:56

There was a glamour model last year who called her daughter Papaya.

This is just as bad.

YouOldSlag · 26/10/2012 22:02

Yeah that was Alicia Douvall

biscuitracer · 26/10/2012 22:09

I'm not sure to be honest, I would certainly get used to it or abbreviated versions of it. It's such a nice, pretty name I think. I read somewhere it will become more commonplace in the next twelve months.

Papaya is quite bad.

i don't think i would.

so i probably wouldn't use it for my daughter. there are some really beautiful names out there......

picnicbasketcase · 26/10/2012 22:13

Saffron, Sage, Rosemary, Basil and Tumeric are the only acceptable herby spicy names.

DorsetKnob · 26/10/2012 22:13

As is Coriander.

FizzyLaces · 26/10/2012 22:14

Currie is a popular surname in Scotland. Now that would be funny Grin

squoosh · 26/10/2012 22:15

Food and drink names are always a bit dodgy

Chardonnay
Honey
Peaches
Apple
Brandy

squoosh · 26/10/2012 22:16

Good shopping list though!

PickledFanjoCat · 26/10/2012 22:32

I can't see coriander getting popular any time soon.

How about Stella?

doyouwantfrieswiththat · 26/10/2012 22:47

Coriander? really? Taramasalata is a beautiful name & could be easily shortened to Tara.

Cezella · 27/10/2012 01:34

I like it.

Startailoforangeandgold · 27/10/2012 01:51

Please don't too much coriander ruins a nice dish.

ZenNudist · 27/10/2012 01:58

Terrible. Like corinne (coh-rin). Don't know how to spell that.

nagynolonger · 27/10/2012 03:26

Rosemary or Lavender maybe but Coriander is awful.

Lots of herby names on a childrens TV series from the late 60s......Called the herbs!

jaggythistle · 27/10/2012 03:38

just no, sorry.

Cora?

DH honestly suggested Paprika for a potential DD. Shock It was a DS2 and he has a non-food name.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2012 04:33

It's known as cilantro in the US and possibly Mexico...

nooka · 27/10/2012 05:45

Don't call your child a came that you think personally you'd get 'used to'! Choose a name that you think would be great to have.

Picking a name because it's 'exotic' makes me think of Frogmella and Spudulika. Not great.

VintageRainBoots · 27/10/2012 06:30

Coriander? No. It's beyond horrible (no offence).

Re: Chardonnay, Honey, Peaches, Brandy (or Brandi).

cupcake78 · 27/10/2012 07:21

No not good and please don't call your baby after a fishy dip (taramasalata)!
