I'm thinking of calling my next daughter coriander, what do you all think?

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 26/10/2012 19:34

Sorry, but no. I think it's a dreadful name and im very open minded and with a weird name myself!
Corrie is truly awful too, but your decision I suppose...

VerySmallSqueak · 26/10/2012 19:34

Mmmm.
Well,it's definitely unusual.
In answer to your question,it wouldn't be a choice that I'd go for.

biscuitracer · 26/10/2012 19:35

It's not well known as a girls name but Julia was after my late nan and she would've been named something more exotic otherwise.

monkeyfacegrace · 26/10/2012 19:37

Oh fuck no.

Corrie is short for Coronation street [hgrin]

Sorry, its hideous.

CremeEggThief · 26/10/2012 19:41

Corina or Carina would go better with Julia, IMO.

messtins · 26/10/2012 19:44

Corrine? Constance (Connie) ?

pikesy1 · 26/10/2012 19:45

Err, that's gross. Corrianne?
Have you considered
Persephone
Ida
Janine
Brogan-Leigh

biscuitracer · 26/10/2012 19:47

Pikesy1 I haven't and their is a good reason!

DorsetKnob · 26/10/2012 19:47

And now The Archers theme tune is running through my head, followed but the tones of Lynda Snell.

pikesy1 · 26/10/2012 19:50

You're considering a herb. I was joking with Brogan-Leigh.

PoppyAmex · 26/10/2012 20:00

How about Carina instead?

thewhistler · 26/10/2012 20:13

Corisande is a real name

I think Julia is lovely, glorious Herrick poem about Julia. Whenas in silks my Julia goes...Those 17th century names would go well

Cecilia
Lucasta
Lucia
Alicia
Corinna

Or Roman
Flavia
Camilla
Helena

LonelyCloud · 26/10/2012 20:23

Coriander? Seriously? [hconfused]

BillysBeastlyBogeyman · 26/10/2012 20:25

Marjoram?
Lettice?

I'm sorry, but please don't.

biscuitracer · 26/10/2012 20:27

Some really interesting suggestions there, something special about herby, earthy names

OP posts:
lljkk · 26/10/2012 20:28

Makes me think of The Archers, too. Isn't she the foul step-daughter?
Corinne is nice ("koh-RIN") & a real name.

Frontpaw · 26/10/2012 20:30

I know one and she has a spice-named sister.

biscuitracer · 26/10/2012 20:32

Haven't seen the archers Confused just something different but not obscure, hence coriander. Has a nice flow to it

Zara1984 · 26/10/2012 20:34

PMSL

Coriander is the joke name my DH and I use when we imagine hypothetical children of luvvies! Please nooooooo don't call your child this!

Coriander is for curries, not for children!! Grin

Lamazeroo · 26/10/2012 20:35

Believe it or not, I went to university with a girl called Corrie-Anya.

Sirzy · 26/10/2012 20:37

This has to be some sort of wind up?

What about Thyme or Parsley? ;)

YouOldSlag · 26/10/2012 20:39

If you call your daughter Coriander, be prepared for a lifetime of people making a blank face as they learn her name, whilst they think of something tactful to say.

Do you really want to saddle her and yourself with that reaction?

If you want herbs go for Rosemary or Sorrel but that's about all you can get away with herb-wise.

biscuitracer · 26/10/2012 20:43

It's an honest idea for a name. Apparently its increasing in popularity, could be common soon

OP posts:
Sirzy · 26/10/2012 20:44

I can't see it ever being popular

although some of the rubbish that becomes popular now who knows

mamalovesmojitos · 26/10/2012 20:45

No. Never!
