There's a McKenzie in my dd's class. Dd tells me he's very naughty Grin

Bessie123 · 23/10/2012 01:03

Is his Dad called Keith??

Inneedofbrandy · 23/10/2012 01:03

Ah I feel nervous with the scrutiny! It's Tianna ( before princess and the frog came out!) and Tayon. Tayon will make a excellent judges me if that's what he wants to fucking be! even if I got the name idea of Maury an changed it slightly

Clary · 23/10/2012 01:04

The only McKenzie I have ever met is a girl.

HTH

(by the way her surname is frequently a first name which is rather confusing if her name is written backwards (as it will be on registers) - think Taylor James/James Taylor etc.

Inneedofbrandy · 23/10/2012 01:04

Argh extra words came out on my last post.

Inneedofbrandy · 23/10/2012 01:05

MrsRhettButler · 23/10/2012 01:16

Thank you brandy I know a beautiful Tianna and would you believe me if I said Tayon was the name I had in the running for both dds if they had been boys! I've loved that name forever! No k names either! Wink
Both really lovely names and fuck anyone who thinks otherwise :)

MrsRhettButler · 23/10/2012 01:18

Also, if you ever find yourself having another dd, can I suggest Tyra as a name that will fit sooo well with your names? I wish dp had let me use it :(

Inneedofbrandy · 23/10/2012 01:19

Well we must both have excellent taste then, much more then the likes of Sophie and Catherine lovers!

I really need to go to sleep

MrsRhettButler · 23/10/2012 01:20

Grin @ Bessie!

Inneedofbrandy · 23/10/2012 01:20

I like Tallia or Tyga but will keep Tyra in mind! It will be another T name!

MrsRhettButler · 23/10/2012 01:22

I wonder why the Americans are more open minded about names. Would a Condoleezza or a Barack have had the same success here?

WitchesTit · 23/10/2012 07:18

What about MacKenzie Dee?

Could shorten to Maccy D, sound snappy when you're yelling your LO in for his/her dinner, and it would cover what's on the menu too.

Kill 2 birds wiv 1 stone, innit?

nooka · 23/10/2012 07:38

Barak is an Arabic name (which is why many Americans are convinced that Obama is a) Muslim and b) not really American).

Condoleezza was made up (based on a musical term).

Americans like different types of names and have a huge mix of heritages. I'm not sure that they are necessarily more open minded.

Many people are more friendly (at least initially) toward those with similar sorts of names as it is a bit of a cultural marker. Hence there are potential issues with calling your child a name that is very obviously associated with particular demographics (as shown by things like mock job applications with names from different cultural and ethnic groups). A more neutral name is less likely to have baggage, but names can change associations quite fast so you ever quite know.

KennethParcell · 23/10/2012 07:42

I have a theory about why we have different tastes in names to the Americans. we are all looking to europe, we see it as a little bit more glamorous than 'here' (and i'm irish so i include ireland here). Names that sound French, Spanish, Italian sound appealing to us.

The Americans are ALL foreign. ;-p they're subconsciously looking for names that suggest that they either came over on the mayflower (for boys Hunter/Tyler) or that they are Irish / Scottish (for girls, Delaney/McKenzie/Kennedy). To us their latin american ancestors would have beautiful sounding names to pick from but they're after a different vibe.

sashh · 23/10/2012 08:46

Sounds like a butterfly or a tree

UltraBOF · 23/10/2012 08:50

Or maybe even a parrot.

Still, you'd have your own website. Sorted.

UltraBOF · 23/10/2012 08:55

And you'd be named after a famous actress- who wouldn't enjoy sharing a name with the illustrious star of such delights as "Older And Anal"?

MolotovBomb · 23/10/2012 09:55

I haven't read other posts on this thread. This decision is quite deliberate as I'm sure there have been some very negative reactions!

Personally, McKenzie-Blue isn't a name that appeals to me as a combination. However, McKenzie is a name that is legitimatey used a a first name for boys and girls. It's very American; one of the nicer sounding American-type names, IMO (along with Robyn).

I like Blue as a middle name. I've heard it from Cher's son, Elijah Blue and John Travolta's daughter, Ella Bleu (sp?).

Soooo, not a name I really like, but not a name I really dislike, either :)

EdsRedeemingQualities · 23/10/2012 09:59

No. No, no, no. Please don't.
