Daphne, Diana, Penelope

Any thoughts on these names? Or any other similar suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

Whilst her friends will always shorten it to whatever they want, and not care if you dislike Penny, you can control what you call her, and what the teachers call her. We have always been asked "is she a Penelope or a Penny, or something else" - mainly because it took forever until she could manage the whole mouthful of a name :D

Plus Penn is an awesome nickname!

I like them all too :) we seriously considered Diana for 3yo dd2 but thought the Princess Di connection was still to strong (discounted Camilla for the same reason) - anyway dd2 is Penelope & we still love it. She's Nell/Nelly/Nella rather than Penny.

Can we start a Penelope quiche?

I really like all the names - very feminine and quite timeless.

My grandmother was called Daphne. No one called her anything but Daphne - no nn. She always introduced herself by that name and didn't answer to anything else. My DD's middle name is now Daphne and we get really positive comments about it. People say it's a very 1930s kind of name.

We short-listed Penelope but decided that we wouldn't use it in the end because it would get shortened to Penny. :(

Or how about Frances?

I have a RL friend called Dinah - she's ok. In the sense of actually pretty cool. We NEVER call her Di, always Dinah or Na.

Forgot to say that she would go ballistic if called Di, as is of the generation who thought Diana Princess of Wales had let the side down badly by blubbing all over ITV.

I like Diana and Penelope. Not so sure about Daphne. It makes me think of the word daft. Josephine nice. Not sure about Posy. Josie?

Diana is still a bit too much Princess of Wales for me, but it's a lovely name. Not keen on Daphne.

Diana is lovely, and quite under-used, I think.

Daphne, dd2. Absolutely no regrets and love the name (and the child, of course) more and more each day.

I love Daphne but my mum laughed so hard when I suggested it that it kind of put me off. All three names are lovely :)

I have a Daphne. She is as beautiful as her name as far as I am concerned!

(Just have to say that I find it really rude when people say they 'hate' a name. They are entitled to their opinion, but it's not very kind or polite.)

If I have another DD she will be Daphne. I already have a Nancy :)

Going with the Greek theme, Persephone or Phoebe? I like that the nn for Persephone could by Percy (have a thing about masculine nicknames for girls)
