oh i like all of them.

favourite probably Rufus.

Blu · 30/09/2012 15:02

Linus is fab.
The others good, except Rex is still too 'dog'.

RancerDoo · 30/09/2012 15:11

Linus. It's just adorable.

Rufus and particularly Rex to me are names for puppies (sorry).

I quite like Tobias, but prefer Toby.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 30/09/2012 15:23

They all sound like puppies to me, but that could be because they are together.

Not to mention, Linus is kid with the blanket sucking his thumb in Snoopy cartoons.

Toby is way better than Tobias though.

comixminx · 30/09/2012 15:27

Linus or at a pinch Rufus. Not Tobias and definitely not Rex (very dog-like!). Yes, Linus is the kid with a blanket but also Linus Pauling (scientist) and Linus Torvalds (inventor of Linux).

We have a four week old Rex and generally have really good reactions (especially from boys and men under 30; they seem to think it is super cool!).

I also love Rufus and Linus and like Tobias. So, in my opinion, you are onto a winner with any of them!

  1. Rufus
  2. Tobias
  3. Linus
  4. Rex

Linus is great - strong, classic and not overused. Tobias is nice too but may get shortened to Toby (which is widely used already).

Rex and Rufus sound very doggy to my ears, sorry.

lighthousekeeping · 30/09/2012 16:43

I haven't heard of a dog called Rex since the 1970's!!! It just reminds me of one of the men in Desperate Housewives. I wonder if it's short for anything?

Rufus all the way. I had never heard of it being thought of as a dog's name until reading it on Mumsnet.

Linus is also lovely. Less keen on Rex and don't really like Tobias, sorry.

Finbert · 30/09/2012 18:39

I know a gorgeous Rufus, also like the sound of Linus

SuperB0F · 30/09/2012 18:45

Linus is really lovely. Rufus was ny first dog's name.

AnnaD2 · 30/09/2012 20:42

We have a Rex, who is 18 months. It seems to be a bit of a love/hate name, but I'm glad we chose it. I haven't met any dogs called Rex ever.....

MrsJohnDeere · 30/09/2012 21:25

Love Tobias and have just added it to my boy short list

MadBusLady · 30/09/2012 21:37

Linus is my favourite but I like Rex too. I think of Rex Harrison, and also Roddy McDowall's character in Evil Under The Sun. Also never met any dogs called Rex.

Rufus is nice, though probably much more common than Linus and Rex - Roo (as in from Winnie the Pooh!) is the cutest nickname I can imagine for a little boy. Tobias would probably always get called Toby, which may or may not be a problem.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 30/09/2012 21:39

Tobias or Linus

GailTheGoldfish · 30/09/2012 21:55

Rex, definitely.

jaffacakehips · 30/09/2012 23:25

Rex!

IsSpringSprangedYet · 30/09/2012 23:32

I like Linus. And then Rufus. We have a Toby and people often assume it's Tobias (it's not!). Ooo, I like Rex too. Good luck choosing though... I'd be stumped!

comixminx · 01/10/2012 07:01

Don't think Rex is short for anything normally; it's Latin for King.

birdofthenorth · 01/10/2012 08:23

Rex! I love it and DH vetoed it. Please do it.
