NATALIE - opinions please!

What do you think of this name? We are a French family living in the UK, and we are looking for a name which is goes in both languages and is a classice (Sophie and Hélène are also on the list)

It's my middle name. It's great unless you come across folks from SE London who all seem to pronounce it without the T

So be strict on pronunciation.

But yes, if you're anywhere near London be prepared for people to drop the t!

DH wanted this if we had a girl, but with the spelling Nathalie. I agreed, but was a bit worried it would be shortened to Nat.

Grim. It was prevalent in the 70s and 80s and the majority of them are now in their early thirties to early forties. It is quite council estate. "Ere Na-alll- ieee, wotcha doin' wiv vat?" I know Natalie Portman is a lovely example of one but the reality is that there are many 'Nats' that are working in shops and are secretaries. That is the reality. Sophie is going exactly the same way nowadays and this is what they are calling their children.

Helene is far better. Apologies if I have offended anyone.

Really like Natalia and Helene, not so keen on Natalie. It sounds, to me, a bit of an itchy name. Like nits I suppose.

Natalie is lovely. Works well in German, French and English and is not overused - great choice and much more interesting than Sophie (of which there are so many already....)

It's my best friends name, she is ALWAYS called Nat though, nobody ever uses the full version.
