Love the name Willow for DD due soon, but what would it get shortened to?
Will or Wills I'm sure but anything else? Would Lola be too random?
Anyone know a Willow and what does she get called for nn?

Surely nicknames just evolve. It's stupid to plan one. And yes, Lola is random. Stop over thinking it.

tigrou · 20/09/2012 20:53

If you love the name Willow, why think of calling her Lola, or anything else for that matter?? Willow is a beautiful name. If I was called Willow, I'd want people to call me just that.

MacMac123 · 20/09/2012 21:01

I am just going to call her Willow, I'm just interested in hearing experiences of nicknames for Willows! And Lola was all I could think that might be used based on the 'low' sound of willow.
I don't think Lola is a natural nickname, and its not a name I love, I'm just wondering if anyone knows any Willows who are nicknamed anything other than Will or Wills!

Maybe just no nickname at all as Willow isn't a long name?

wigglesrock · 20/09/2012 21:05

Willy? Strangely anyone I know with a nickname has developed one when they went to school and it usually based on surnames. You can have any kind of pet name yourselves for her that you would like - I have pet names for my 3 daughters that have no bearing at all on their actual names Grin

YouMayLogOut · 20/09/2012 21:06

Lo?

DancehallDaze · 20/09/2012 21:10

Rather than Lola, I could imagine it evolving into Lolo. That unfortunately means boobs in French slang, but she might find that quite chic.

SirGOLDBoobs · 20/09/2012 21:11

Nicknames tend to arise to match the child, having one set out in advance really is needed.

DS's nickname is Squigglet. Certainly not a shortening of his name Grin

I'm called Willow and as a child (and to this day) my mum and dad call me catkins (because they grow on willow trees)

Yutes · 30/10/2018 06:15

I know two willows and they have no nicknames.

Yutes · 30/10/2018 06:15

Sorry. Zombie thread

Polkasq · 30/10/2018 09:08

Stick with Willow in full. Lola is no quicker to say than Willow.

ShadyLady53 · 30/10/2018 10:46

I knew a “Lowie”. Have also heard Will as a nickname.

Another2day · 30/10/2018 11:27

Why on earth would Willow be shortened?! It's a lovely name. It's easy to say,

ZebraKid71 · 30/10/2018 13:55

The natural nn would be will/wills/willy as a shortening. I know of one who goes by Lolly but the others I know all go by their full name.

GraceMarks · 30/10/2018 14:10

I wonder if the OP will come back and tell us what her 6-year-old DD's nickname is now?

Another2day · 30/10/2018 14:39
