Too funky for Finley?

So was away on holiday and saw a gorgeous little boy by the name of Phoenix, both me and dh fell in love with the name but I don't think it goes very well with our ds name Finley?

Does it matter or is Finley and Phoenix sound ok??

Your opinions are much appreciated :) x

I knew a girl called Phoenix, it's a lovely name.

MolotovBomb · 20/09/2012 18:19

Sorry OP, I don't think that Finley and Phoenix sound right together. Phoenix is too funky compared to Finley.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 20/09/2012 18:22

Middle name maybe?

justhayley · 20/09/2012 20:19

I think they sound really nice together, but even if they didn't I don't think siblings names need to "go"

BlazerOfGlory · 20/09/2012 20:47

too similar, fin and phoe (fee)

YouMayLogOut · 20/09/2012 21:04

If you like the name Phoenix then use it. However I think they actually could be too similar as they're both 2 syllables starting with the F (Ph) sound, with an i and n in the middle.

I think Fin/Finley and Phoenix would be lovely for brothers - I think they sound great together.

Not sure what you mean with 'funky' - both Finley and Phoenix seem quite modern, trendy names to me.

Thanks for your replies all

I thought phoenix was a bit trendier than Finley which is why they might not go but yeah fin and phee (god if I say that to dh hes gonna love that lol) ... Doesn't sound right to me either :(

Phoenix? Really please don't...think of your child having to introduce themselves to employers, inlaws,, dates etc. it has the ring of a porn star name if you know what I mean. You can be different a without being ridiculous...as a teacher I can tell you we all have a good laugh at such names and roll our eyes at the pretentious nonsense some people come up with. Sorry if a bit harsh but you need to remember its a child and a life not a fashion statement

emmyloo2 · 21/09/2012 07:44

Sorry I am with cherryblue - Phoenix is terrible, truly.

Imagine them walking into a board room and introducing themselves as Phoenix.

Finley is lovely and very respectable. What about something like Owen, Xavier, Oscar?

CheerfulYank · 22/09/2012 07:56

I have a friend who has a Phoenix (maybe it was him you saw on holiday, were you in the US? :) ) and it does suit him, but they are quite a "funky" family.

snickers251 · 22/09/2012 15:52

I did think about how having a trendy/funky name when dc child is older but then with some of the odd chavtastic names I've heard about it makes me think Phoenix is quite tamed! Lol

We're not overly trendy but were in our mid twenties, dh is an indie boy .. Actually Finley was almost called Indie until we saw a program on tele with a arrogant twat with the name

The more I think about it (and read responses!) the more I've gone off of it

Back to the drawing board it is!

Thanks for your comments Smile
