Do you know any? What reactions do they to their names? Which do you prefer?

We have a 16mo Tabitha and have had really lovely comments about her name. She get nn Tabs at nursery which drives me nuts but is inevitable.

I love Jemima too. I'm currently pg with DD2 and DH has said no to Jemima, sob.

Tough decision!

squoosh · 18/09/2012 16:29

Tabitha.

Minty82 · 18/09/2012 16:34

I know a six year old Tabitha, and actually if I hadn't known her it could well have been on my list for DD, I love it. As far as I know she's only ever had positive reactions.

Jemima has for some reason always been a joke name in my family so I struggle to see it objectively - bit too public schoolgirl...

Of the two, Jemima, although I agree with Minty that it's a bit stereotypically posh.

Tabitha is not for me as I dislike cats and I don't like the "Tab" sound at the beginning. I prefer Talitha or Talisa.

BananaBubbles · 18/09/2012 17:35

Jemima is lovely.Tabitha is awful. It has a harsh, ugly sound imho.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 18/09/2012 17:39

I love the name Tabitha.

MoonHare · 18/09/2012 17:47

Love Tabitha. It's a marmite name but those who love it REALLY LOVE it and we've had many compliments on our 18 mth old Tabitha's name.

Ignore those who talk about witches and cats being reasons why they don't like it. As far as I'm concerned those associations are part of what makes it such a great name.

Quite like Jemima too but it's not as fabulous as Tabitha.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 18/09/2012 17:56

I love Jemima but DM immediately said 'puddle duck' so that's out for us! :(

LuellaLovesLavender · 18/09/2012 18:32

Moonhare I actually love the witch and cat associations also so that does not put me off in the least...do you shorten her name or just stick to Tabitha??

turningvioletviolet · 18/09/2012 19:12

We have a Jemima - love, love, love it. Never had any bad reactions (to my face) and have no problems with the puddleduck associations - lots of sweet presents with said duck on it over the years. Having said that also love Tabitha (my other dd is called Harriet - similar sort of vein). Oh, and we are far from posh.

LuellaLovesLavender · 18/09/2012 19:18

Turningvioletviolet do you shorten it to Jem or Jemma? Grin to the little duck presents...sooooo cute!

OP posts:
anniewoo · 18/09/2012 19:19

I think of cats so no Grin. Sorry

LuellaLovesLavender · 18/09/2012 19:23

Do any mums of little Tabitha's use the nickname Kitty.......which I simply adore and again the cat thing is a positive for me! Wink

Our Jemima is shortened to all sorts of things but funnily enough never Jem or Jemma (fundamentally different types of names i think). DD gets Mimes, Mima, Jimmy Jams, Mimi, Jamas, Moo Moo, Doodles (you get my drift) - she probably responds to anything, she is called that many different things. But she is essentially known as Jemima with no shortening, whereas dd1 Harriet, is pretty much known as Hattie by everyone.

MoonHare · 18/09/2012 19:42

Our Tabitha is mostly still just Tabitha outside of imediate family. Maybe she'll come up with her own nn later but we don't shorten it. That doesn't mean she doesn't have lots of pet-names within the family though.....but I'm not going to share!

akaemmafrost · 18/09/2012 19:43

Tabitha. Love that name.

BananaBubbles · 18/09/2012 20:23

Why not just Kitty if you love it?

otterpop · 18/09/2012 22:19

They're both lovely, but I like Tabitha most,it's on our list too!

thewhistler · 18/09/2012 22:50

Love both but knew a wonderful Tabitha, aka Tabby. Just as posh as Jemima

Shesparkles · 18/09/2012 22:54

I love Tabitha! I'm not so keen on Jemima, even though it was my gran's name...

JaquelineHyde · 18/09/2012 22:55

How bizarre DH and I currently have Jemima and Tabitha as our top two if we have a girl!

I love both but if pushed I would chose Jemima.

Badgerina · 19/09/2012 00:08

Tabitha. I absolutely love this name. I NEED A GIRL SO I CAN USE IT Envy
