Love the name Oscar, know a couple of babies & toddlers but not sure if I can imagine a grown up one, do you know what I mean?....

Problem is, I know 2 (small ones, 4yo) who have nutty mothers. As in unpleasant bellicose spiteful trouble-follows-them-around women.

MrsJohnDeere · 18/09/2012 16:06

Hugely popular already, and likely to get more so.

I struggle to see it as a people name as I've known lots of dogs over the years called Oscar, but children only in the last couple of years.

Good point Minsmum although tbh he could carry off any name he is so talented & divine!

I like Oscar, it is getting popular but lots of nice names are, so sometimes you can't let that be the main factor in the decision. I think it is a name which doesn't come with too many preconceptions and can be made the babies own iyswim.

Machadaynu · 18/09/2012 16:16

When my friends called their kid Oscar I thought of it as a babies name. Now it seems like rather a nice name for the seven year old he is. Names grow with them. When we named our kid my mum (later admitted) that she thougt she had an 'old lady name' but she loves it now.

AWomanCalledHorse · 18/09/2012 16:19

mrsnobby, congratulations. Hope you have an uneventful & morning sickness free pregnancy!! Grin

I like Oscar, but all it is to me is one of the letter of the phonetic alphabet!

EverlongYouAreGoldAndOrange · 18/09/2012 16:49

I have an Oscar.

He's 13, he suits his name. He loves his name too.

mayanna123 · 18/09/2012 22:06

I'm not keen on Ossy or Ozzie as nickname (or Os/Oz).

xmasevebundle · 18/09/2012 22:15

No its a cats name, its awful. I only know of 1 oscar.

marshmallowpies · 18/09/2012 22:18

I never particularly liked Oscar as a name but now have one in my family (DN) and he's one of the nicest kindest sweetest people in the world, so now I recommend it unreservedly. Lovely name for a lovely boy.

allthefun · 18/09/2012 22:31

Lots of Oscars round here aged 10 and down. Nice name but will probably date him in the future - along with the Alfie's

Tommy · 18/09/2012 22:35

I have one - but genuinely didn't realise it was "trendy".... Confused
I don't think I am a nutty mother.
He is the only one in his class but I think there's another one in his year group (out of 90). He is 5.
Don't know if that helps or not!

Badgerina · 19/09/2012 00:10

I have an Oscar and since it's really getting popular I am going to selfishly demand that you do not use it!!!!! Grin Wink

I don't think I'm a nutter-mum, but that doesn't mean I'm not... I guess... Confused Grin
