Hi,never been on here before so bare with me if Im a bit slow to reply or whatever. We are thinking about the name Sadie if baby no.2 is a girl. However those of you from the North-East may or may not be aware of a certain shop by the name of 'Sadie- the bra lady'! Im just a bit worried this could end up a potential nickname in the future. So I guess Im just wondering how well known this shop is to my fellow northerners, is this what comes to mind when you hear the name Sadie? Im not fussed if people dont like the name, just dont want my potential daughter to get teased, thank
you

well that's my name... maybe i'm biased, but it's awesome :P

Sadie looks like Sad-ie and I'm not keen on the Sad part Sad. But I've never heard of the bra lady named Sadie..

Indith · 16/09/2012 21:28

Grin sorry but yes Sadie the bra lady does spring to mind. She has adverts everywhere at the moment!

But it is a nice name. Who knows what will happen in the future? Maybe you'll move? Maybe Sadie will stop having adverts on the sides of buses? Plus you have heard of her but not everyone has, there are a heck of a lot of people in the NE who have no clue who Sadie the bra lady is.

Thankyou for your replies, we like the name Im just concernd about it getting called 'bra-lady' ;) Im glad to hear you havnt heard of it, but are you from north-east? - if so I would be even more relieved as I think it only exists up here..

Never heard of the "bra-lady" connection? I'm not keen on it though, I just think "sadist".

littletinkersmammy · 16/09/2012 21:39

Thanks, hadn't even seen the buses damn it! Lol. I just see it everyday on the roundabout to work, hmm maybe I need to go and sneak into some bus stations in the dead of the night with a big tin of paint.....;)

I'd use it. Seriously I doubt many kids know of it when I regularly encounter women who don't know it.

Greenwing · 16/09/2012 22:31

Never heard of bra lady but would it put you off that some people will look at the name and see the word 'sad' jump out at them and similarly some people will hear the sound of the name and think immediately 'sadist' - I do, I'm afraid.
Good luck choosing.

A fair number of my friends have been to Sadie the Bra Lady in Darlington to get their busts sized.

But aside from that, it's a lovely name.

B1ueberry · 16/09/2012 23:03

Love Sadie. I've never heard of the bra lady.

Badgerina · 16/09/2012 23:31

Sexy Sadie. Not keen. It's a bit... Seedy.

littletinkersmammy · 16/09/2012 23:52

Thankyou for all the replies, but think I need to clarify / reiterate - am not asking if people like the name or not. We are both happy with it, Im simply trying to weigh up the likelihood of it aquiring the nickname ' sadie the bra lady', so really only need to hear from folks up here in the north where the chain exists. Kids will always come up with some kind of nickname if theyre determined, just dont want to give them a headstart...

If it helps, whenever women at work talk about needing new bras, it's always "off to see Sadie the Bra Lady"

(Disclaimer - we don't talk about our underwear all the time)
