Only a couple of weeks left to decide!! Please tell, what springs your to mind when you hear these names? Which one is better? Is Celia just a nickname for Cecilia? Would love to hear your opinion, or any other suggestions along these lines... ! Thank you!

I prefer Cecilia to Celia.
Celia still has a middle aged aura about it for me, anyway.
Cecilia is always the Patron saint of Music, which means so much to my life.

Cecilia

Badgerina · 13/09/2012 23:30

I prefer Cecelia. Will you use the nn Cece? It's lovely.

TudorJess · 13/09/2012 23:31

How is Cece pronounced? Is it Che-che, or See-see, Sessy or Chee-Chee?

Badgerina · 14/09/2012 00:53

I would say See-see.

saffronwblue · 14/09/2012 01:09

I have a Celia. People sometimes think she is a Cecilia but she is quick to put them right.
We were influenced by the meanings - Cecilia means blind (and as DH has an eye problem I did not want this). Celia can be interpreted to mean heavenly.
She is usually called Celie or sometimes Celie-wheel!

Pernickety · 14/09/2012 08:08

Cecelia - Cece (se-see) is a cute nickname.

LittleBlackDress · 14/09/2012 08:22

Cecilia is derived from a Roman family name, which was itself derived from the Latin word caecus, meaning blind. So, technically, no, Cecilia doesn't actually mean blind, although some baby name books say that.

I think both names are lovely, but yes, Celia is more of a nn for Cecilia.

Sirenetta · 14/09/2012 09:05

Cecilia is just beautiful - patron saint of music. One of my very top names but we can't use it because our last name begins with an S so it's just way too much SSSSSSSS. Celia more matronly and much less sexy in my opinion.

ceeveebee · 14/09/2012 09:14

I love Cecilia, but whenever I hear/read the name I am stick with the Somin and Garfunkal song in my head for the rest of the day

ImpYCelyn · 14/09/2012 09:16

What about Cecily?

Of the two I prefer Cecilia.

Ephiny · 14/09/2012 09:17

I like Cecilia best.

MrsJohnDeere · 14/09/2012 11:39

Prefer Celia to Cecilia, but Cecily is even nicer.

Pasiphae · 14/09/2012 13:18

I prefer Cecilia, Celia sounds like the prim and proper version.
I know it's silly, but it looks like a Cecilia would be more fun than a Celia.
Cece is a great nickname!

Zoelda · 14/09/2012 13:22

Doesn't cecilia mesncrooked nose? That's what put me off. Otherwise
I love it!

Gossipgirladdict · 14/09/2012 16:28

I have a Cecilia! She is five (nearly six) and almost exclusively known as Cece since birth (so much so that I've just realised I need to teach her how to spell her 'proper' name)!
People always comment on her name and no-one ever forgets it. Complete strangers often break into the song when told her name and DD loves it! I love singing the song to her and she sings it herself now sometimes too!
It's a fabulous name and suits her down to the ground.

lakeofshiningwaters · 14/09/2012 20:30

Both are nice, but Cecilia edges it for me. If you have other children Cecilia becomes Cec/Sis as a nn (as in Atonement) which is cute!

LemonLovesLilac · 15/09/2012 22:19

Cecilia

SoggySummer · 15/09/2012 22:23

My DD is at school with a Cecelia and they shorten it to Ce Ce (See See)

Lolwhut · 15/09/2012 22:49

Cecilia gets my vote
