How would you pronounce it?

It's another name for Chalciope, daughter of Aeetes, wife of Phrixus,in Greek mythology...

(disclaimer I am not pregnant...just a name obsessive...) Grin

You-ay-nia.

TittyWhistles · 13/09/2012 10:07

Weenia?

FriggFRIGG · 13/09/2012 10:07

Hmm,
I think I'd say 'You-Nee-ah' with emphasis on the 'nee' like Eugena without the G....

BumsyClugger · 13/09/2012 10:11

You-en-yah

MadBusLady · 13/09/2012 10:54

You-EEN-ee-a.

squoosh · 13/09/2012 13:24

I'd say You-nee-a.

It sounds a bit medicinal.

Mum8 · 13/09/2012 13:33

I would say Ev-ee- nEEa, but I am Greek so I pronounced it as in Greek

FanjoPingpong · 13/09/2012 20:18

You-EN-ee-ah, at a guess.

WingDefence · 13/09/2012 20:28

You-EYN-ee-ah?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/09/2012 20:29

No idea but I don't like it - it makes me think of wee! :)

mathanxiety · 14/09/2012 06:08

It looks as if it's missing a G.

euGenia...

Ilovedaintynuts · 14/09/2012 06:34

Too many vowels!

newby2 · 14/09/2012 07:10

U-a-nia.

EarnestDullard · 14/09/2012 15:45

I'd guess You-en-ee-ah. Agree it looks like it's missing a consonant though!

WhatYouLookingAt · 14/09/2012 15:57

Can't really be You-en-ee-ah, as its EUE not EU at the beginning.

You-en-ee-ah.

EarnestDullard · 14/09/2012 17:38

Surely whether it's EUE or EU at the begining depends on how you read it, and how you group the letters Confused

I'd read it as Eu-en-i-a, hence You-en-ee-ah.

squoosh · 14/09/2012 17:40

It is a tad urinary.

WhatYouLookingAt · 14/09/2012 17:44

yes, but you can't really group the letters to make you-nee-ah, as said above. EUE doesn't make a you sound, IMO (not in Greek anyway)

EarnestDullard · 14/09/2012 17:50

Then I'm confused; in your first post you said it can't be You-en-ee-ah, now you're saying you can't make You-nee-ah. I don't know if I'm agreeing with you or disagreeing Grin

Maraki · 14/09/2012 17:59

I also think that you are missing a G: the name is Eugenia, pronounced 'ev-ye-nee-a'
(i am Greek)

WhatYouLookingAt · 14/09/2012 20:43

I think agreeing, I mistyped earlier. meant can't be yoo-nee-eh, must be yoo-en-ee-ah.
Am moron. Blush

FriggFRIGG · 15/09/2012 15:29

maraki I know there is a name Eugenia, this is not it Smile

I still can't figure out how to pronounce it though...

Safe to say this would be the most annoying name to live with! Wink
