We like Annie but not sure about any longer versions (or shorter ones). Does it work as a stand alone name do you think?

I have an Annabel that I always shorten to Annie. Stand alone lovely I think.

mamalovesmojitos · 11/09/2012 21:51

Anne-marie? But it's perfect on it's own.

TudorJess · 11/09/2012 21:52

I think it works best as a nickname.

Anneliese
Anna
Annabel
Anne

Parisbanana · 11/09/2012 21:55

Love it and perfectly fine as a given name.

sunnyshine · 11/09/2012 21:55

I love annie! Very jealous when I hear people say it!! :-(

remaincalm · 11/09/2012 21:58

I think it works well as a stand alone name. Really lovely name.

MadBusLady · 11/09/2012 22:03

It's a nickname IMO.

Anais
Anastasia
Anna-Maria
Anita
Annunciata (!)

NoodieRoodie · 11/09/2012 22:04

it works perfectly as a stand alone name, or can be a nn for Anne. In fact it's a wonderful name and it's not very common.

(I have no bias at all in my comments, as of course I'm not an Annie Wink )

GhouliaYelps · 11/09/2012 22:18

Annie is a beautiful name

PuffPants · 11/09/2012 22:19

I know a baby Annie - I love it (and her)!

LadyLetch · 11/09/2012 23:19

Love it.

mathanxiety · 12/09/2012 03:10

Lovely and timeless. Twas my granny's given name. Not short for anything or a nickname.

Gugglebum · 12/09/2012 17:43

When most people hear you call her name, they will not know whether it is a nickname or just her name, unless you meet some nosey parker who asks. I think it's funny when strangers want to know if a name is a nn. What's it to them? If you love Annie alone, use it. She can choose to have people call her just Anne if she wants to when she's older. But Annie is fab on its own.

B1ueberry · 12/09/2012 17:46

I don't see why not.

Floggingmolly · 12/09/2012 17:46

I love it Smile

speculationisrife · 12/09/2012 17:50

I love Annie - all the Annies I know are clever, kind, creative, imaginative people. Even spoke to a lovely Annie yesterday at a school we're looking at for DD and thought to myself how I've never met an Annie I didn't like! I do have a bit of a thing about using diminutives on birth certs, but that's just me - no reason why you shouldn't!

Aimeetree · 12/09/2012 18:31

Love it! It was my grandmas's name so is my DD's middle name Smile

Teamthrills · 13/09/2012 21:54

Recently discovered my great grandmother was named Annie Elizabeth. Lovely name.

ISmellCheese · 13/09/2012 22:35

I have an ex boyfriend with a sister called this - seemed very cool. But that was before the - ie names

whatsoever · 14/09/2012 04:40

It was on our list - I wanted Anna as the 'official' name and Annie for everyday; DH liked Annie on its own.

Needless to say, we never got past that stumbling block!

Lovely name though. Ageless & classless.

HorryWinwood · 14/09/2012 05:52

I have a 6 month old Annie. Her real name is Anna but to be honest I cannot see us ever calling her anything other than Annie as it suits her so much.

birdofthenorth · 14/09/2012 10:02

I love Annie. I don't see why it's any less of a piper name than Molly, Evie etc - and lovelier IMHO.

WineOhWhy · 14/09/2012 10:07

Love Annie. It was on our list last time but DH feels very strongly about having a "proper" name on the birth certificate, and we could not agree on what that should be (and there were other names we liked equally). If I had another I would definitely use Annie, possibly with Anna or Anya on the birth certificate to keep DH happy.
I know 2 Annies. One is short for Annabel, and the long and short version are both used. The other is Welsh and it is short for Anwen, but she is virtually always Annie.

MissPerception · 14/09/2012 10:11

I don't understand all this "real name" "nickname" stuff to be honest.

A nickname happens. It's not a thought out process.

Annie is a lovely name.

imustbepatient · 14/09/2012 11:42

teamthrills my grandmother was Annie Elizabeth as well! I think it's lovely too although apparently she didn't and called herself June (after her birth month) instead.
