DH and I can't decide which we like best...both are really pretty and our final choice.

Linnet, but I betcha everybody else prefers Delia

IHeartKingThistle · 09/09/2012 22:30

Linnet is fab.

BestIsWest · 09/09/2012 22:34

Linnet. Lovely.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 09/09/2012 22:48

linnet? how is that pronounced? i think it sounds like a dairy manufacturing by-product...

TudorJess · 09/09/2012 23:56

Linnet

HotHotNot · 10/09/2012 00:02

Linnet but will get spelled Lynette a lot.

ravenAK · 10/09/2012 00:06

Love Linnet. Children of Green Knowe. Fab!

Linnet · 10/09/2012 00:06

I may be biased but I'd go for Linnet Grin

BackforGood · 10/09/2012 00:25

Is Linnet pronounced like Lynette?
If so, is there a reason you'd not spell it the more conventional way ?
Do you live in UK?
If I saw Linnet on a register, I would be wondering if it was one of those names that doesn't sound like it's written (to my English ears / with my English spelling) you know, like Roisin or Padriag.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 10/09/2012 00:48

don't, please go for Linnet on the grounds that most people prefer it to Delia, which is a name most associated with an efficient but dull cook.

Gugglebum · 10/09/2012 01:21

Clearly in the minority thus far, but I like Delia, alone or as a nn for Cordelia.

howcomes · 10/09/2012 01:26

My sister is called Linnet and she's always had people complimenting her name. Although biased I think it's much nicer than Delia :)

lisaro · 10/09/2012 03:26

Linnet? As in the bird? Or lynette? Lynette is inoffensive. Linnet would just be silly.

nooka · 10/09/2012 03:30

I love Linnet, mainly because Children of Green Knowe was one of my favourite books growing up.

CheerfulYank · 10/09/2012 03:38

I love Linnet and prefer it to Delia. I don't like Lynette. :)

Lannie33 · 10/09/2012 03:40

I like Delia out of those choices. Not keen on Linnett (has old lady connotation to me)...but Linnea (a northern european name..i think swedish or something) is pretty.

Psammead · 10/09/2012 07:24

How about Delilah?

Zeldamoo · 10/09/2012 08:10

It is pronounced LIN-IT. And yes I also love it because of the Children of Green Knowe books! Seems the s more popular than Delia. Nice to get some feedback!

dont like either of them, sorry

Minty82 · 10/09/2012 09:18

Linnet was always on my mental baby name list growing up, as another Green Knowe fan! It's beautiful, but I went massively off it when I realised everyone would confuse it with Lynette, which I think is hideous. Love the idea of other people going for it and having little Linnets though.
Delia's my friend's mum's name, so I have to work quite hard to picture it on a child, but it could be quite sweet...not a patch on Linnet though.

smogwod · 10/09/2012 09:27

Much prefer Delia (I can just hear the school chants of 'bin it, linnet')

TenthMuse · 10/09/2012 09:36

Love Linnet because of its Green Knowe and bird connections. It sounds simple, fresh and pretty - my only reservation would be the possible confusion with Lynette.

Delia's OK - I know a lovely four-year-old one - but it sounds a little old-fashioned/middle aged to me.

SilkStalkings · 10/09/2012 12:30

Prefer Linnet (my fantasy twin girls were always Linnet and Wren!) but I would suggest it depends on your surname. If it begins with A for example I would avoid Delia.

peeriePistoriuslicker · 10/09/2012 12:31

I LOVE Linnet :) I wish I could use it but it just doesn't go with our surname at ALL.

DessieLou · 10/09/2012 14:35

I prefer Delia, much prettier. Smile
