Verity or serena ?

Trying to decide between these two for dd2 due last week. Hormonal angst preventing useful decision making so any opinions would be helpful. We want a name that is classic but not common ( both rank 350+), pretty sounding and not too easily shortened (although we accept we cannot prevent nicknames altogether, especially once they hit school.). Which do you prefer of serena and verity? Thanks!

Dd1 was nearly Serena and dd2 is verity .... We also liked leonora, elodie and cara. Of your two I prefer verity, you have good taste . Our verity is nearly 4 and her name isn't shortened except sometimes to a very Bond-esque "V".....

Serena is glamorous and beautiful, Verity is Pony Club and Swearing in green wellies ad mouldy Barbour in the WI tent.

Ah perception is a funny thing.... I think Serena is butch tennis player and verity is cute 3 year old with a good line in making up songs and riding scooters.....

My DD is Serena and is much as you describe, Butterflies! I like to think it could be a name from any class, eg Serena Williams, Lady Serena Stanhope ( some woman in the Royal family...)

That said, I like Verity too!

We once had a Nissan Serena and so, for me, Serena is a rather ordinary van-like people carrier! Not a little girl.

I know this won't help much, but verity = sassy female producer of doctor who. Serena = the song 'oh serena' by the Distillers.

Ha, you're going to get a completely unhelpful 50/50 split! I think Verity's gorgeous; don't like Serena at all.

I like both but prefer the sound of Serena. Verity is a little hard sounding. Having said that, V is a good nn for Verity whereas Serena doesn't really have any nns that I can think of.

Verena is also a name if you want a combination

Verity is a lovely name.
