Joseph, Benjamin & Reuben

Ds3 is 3 days old today, name still to be decided. His big brothers are Joseph and Benjamin.

After much thought I've decided I really love the name Reuben, it suits him, he's olive skinned with dark hair. Love biblical names.

However, does it go with Benjamin? Both havin 'ben' in the name? Am I overthinking it? His nn would be ru or rube not ben obviously.

Would people think it strange having a Benjamin and a Reuben- I only noticed the similarity on a baby naming website which mentioned ben being a nn for Reuben- never would've noticed otherwise.

Don't know why I noticed, but these are all names of Jacob's sons. I think he 11 - you would have to carry on... :)
I like Reuben.

mrsmoodypants · 08/09/2012 13:30

I'd not think they were the same. Sounds a lovely set of names - go with it

FermezLaBouche · 08/09/2012 13:30

ErikNorseman · 08/09/2012 13:31

Not strange, they go well. I think of Reuben as 'reub-en' rather than 'reu-ben', so more like Robin than Ben, in a way.

Oh thank you everyone Smile what a relief!

Fermez, I had noticed the connection, the story too Grin. But wasn't worried about that, just coincidence on my part.

I'm happy now, my little boy has a name!

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 08/09/2012 15:40

They are all lovely names.

chickydoo · 08/09/2012 15:45

My friend has a Ruben she calls him Roo

AndWhenYouGetThere · 08/09/2012 16:47

Reuben is lovely and it goes well with his brothers - go for it.

(I also know a baby Reuben Joseph - Roo Joey - lots of cute winnie the pooh babyclothes that are "personalised")

Shesparkles · 08/09/2012 16:51

When I saw the thread title I thought you would be trying to choose between the 3 names, I was thinking I like them all but Reuben was my favourite!

awhistlingwoman · 08/09/2012 16:59

Our DS1 is a Reuben.

He is know as . . .
Roo, Reubs, Ruby Doos, Scooby Doobs, Rubix Cube, Rubicon, Oobs, Reubeniser, Ruby Tuesday and many others.

NEVER Ben. It wouldn't have crossed my mind that it might be an issue!

And needless to say, I really like the name Reuben!
And Joseph and Benjamin too.
Jacob had good taste as well as lots of sons Wink

BikeRunSki · 08/09/2012 17:04

I wouldn't think of Ben as a nn of Reuben. All those are great names. and Benjamin and Reuben not too similar

thekidsarealright · 08/09/2012 17:53

My DN is a Reuben and he's a Roo too! My DS is Joseph scribbles Benjamin on a post it for DS2

Fermez I thought that! Stay away for Asher, Simeon and Levi though ... Wink

TimeForCake · 08/09/2012 21:48

I really like Reuben and it's on the list for dc2. I love all those nicknames too awhistlingwoman!
Would never have made the connection with Ben though.

herecomesthsun · 09/09/2012 02:49

I have got Andrew Lloyd Webber tunes going round in my head just reading this!

Pochemuchka · 09/09/2012 02:51

All lovely names and not similar at all.
