Hello from Canada! Expecting DD 2 soon (have a boy and a girl already).
Need help narrowing down...please rate my girl names on a scale of 1-10 (10 being best), and tell me if you associate the name with anything (eg. stripper, classy, old-lady, etc). I'm throwing in a few I hate just to see if our our taste in names is similar or not! THANKS!!!!
Amelia
Clara
Hailey
Kaia
Kylie
Lia
Mackenzie
Matilda
Mia
Tabitha

I think Amelia has had a Dr Who boost (Amy Pond is Amelia, and she's a Scot) FWIW.

itsjustmeanon · 10/09/2012 15:18

Amelia - 8
Clara - 9
Hailey - 8
Kaia -3
Kylie - 3
Lia - 3
Mackenzie - 4
Matilda - 9
Mia - 8
Tabitha - 7

lottiegarbanzo · 10/09/2012 15:23

Good point Horatia. Those names are quite 'Enid Blyton boarding school' style to me, which I think gives them some sort of granny-chic.

bertiebottseveryfalvourbeans · 21/05/2020 20:40

Amelia - 4/10 pretty but v v overused

Clara- 6/10 a bit oldy worldy

Hailey - 9/10 really pretty and nice nickname would be Hallie

Kaia - if its kay-ya then 5/10 but if its ky-ya then 7/20

Kylie - 7/10 would have been higher of it didnt remind me of Kylie Jenner

Lia - 5/10 Nice but will only work with a snazzy surname

Mackenzie - 4/10 not a fan of unisex names but thats really just me

Matilda - 7/10 Tilly or Tilda is cute for short, was quite popular a few years ago

Mia - 5/10 a bit boring and would get irritating if you said it enough times

Tabitha - 4/10 just makes me think of a tabby cat??

bertiebottseveryfalvourbeans · 21/05/2020 20:40

just realised how old this is!! what was the baby called ??

PetraRabbit · 21/05/2020 21:46

Amelia- top name in the UK, everyone's new baby is called Amelia.
Clara- classy, classic, part of the Cora/Audrey/Margot type of new old classic trend
Hailey- horrible misspelled version of Hayley which was popular here in the late 80s amongst lower social brackets
Kaia- K names here are seen as very Kardashian
Kylie- I'm in my 40s so for me it's Kylie Minogue- kind of on a par with calling your child Madonna or very Australian
Lia- pleasant but bland, it's similar to a lot of other popular names, Lila, Lyla, Mia etc
Mackenzie- a Scottish surname, kind it very weird as a female first name, just not used in the UK, might lower a child's life chances due to social snobbery
Matilda- very educated class of name
Mia- typical top 10 name, pretty but so overused along with Mila
Tabitha- considered more posh. High Grant has a Tabitha.

Clara, Matilda and Tabitha stand out as very different to the others.

PetraRabbit · 21/05/2020 21:48

Sorry Hugh Grant!!!

newmum332 · 21/05/2020 22:58

Amelia - 6 classic if a bit popular. I’ve never met an Amelia I didn’t like.
Clara - 8 on my list, I love this but I’ve had a mixed reaction seems a bit like marmite
Hailey - 1 overused and not very current. Also strangely reminds me of Eminem’s daughter!! Weird I know
Kaia - 5 ok
Kylie - 3 reminds me of Kylie Jenner but not terrible I just wouldn’t use it
Lia - no 0
Mackenzie - no 0
Matilda - 6 lovely name but a bit cutesy
Mia - 7 not one I would pick, common enough without being overused
Tabitha - heard this a lot recently, not one I would use but don’t dislike 5

LiviLoggs · 21/05/2020 23:25

Amelia - 10 - love it, a formal name but when young the child will have many nickname options.
Clara - 4 - I would say too old lady like for me personally, I seem to only associate it with the nutcracker which makes it feel too Christmassy for me!
Hailey - 2 - I really don’t like hailey, I think it’s outdated.
Kaia - 5 decent but I think names ending with -a are over used nowadays,
Kylie - 1
Lia - 2 - I prefer the spelling Leah but wouldn’t use it personally.
Mackenzie - minus 10
Matilda - 10 - love 5e nicknames associated so
Mia - 7 - decent but overused
Tabitha - 8

Sittingontheveranda · 22/05/2020 20:55

Amelia - nice name. Very widely used. Used by all classes which makes it more of a classic.
Clara - I love this name.
Hailey - Not to my taste.
Kaia - Not to my taste.
Kylie - Not to my taste.
Lia - It’s ok.
Mackenzie - Not to my taste.
Matilda - Nice but really awful nickname Tilly makes it unusable.
Mia - I dislike this.
Tabitha - Lovely name.

Clara, Matilda, Tabitha were on my list when I had my daughter. I regret not using Clara. I love Tabitha but I can’t imagine saying this name every day. I love it though.

Amelia - 1 meal, mealy. unpleasant to say and so overdone.
Clara - 10 Clara Bow, film star, pretty, classic yet not overdone
Hailey - 6 - same sound as a lot of other names but okay.
Kaia - 4 - too many ways to spell it.
Kylie - 5 - sweet, I'm too old to associate with Jenner. Minogue is loveable. I have a cute 5 yr old American cousin called it.
Lia - 7 - Looks nice written down. Okay.
Mackenzie 2 - American. Masculine. Surname.
Matilda 9 - Classic, lots of nice nn. Don't hate it even though overdone.
