Hello from Canada! Expecting DD 2 soon (have a boy and a girl already).
Need help narrowing down...please rate my girl names on a scale of 1-10 (10 being best), and tell me if you associate the name with anything (eg. stripper, classy, old-lady, etc). I'm throwing in a few I hate just to see if our our taste in names is similar or not! THANKS!!!!
Amelia
Clara
Hailey
Kaia
Kylie
Lia
Mackenzie
Matilda
Mia
Tabitha

Ah, hadn't thought of that Smile Though I would still avoid just cos of the inevitable need to spell out the 'different' spelling of the name every time. Just seems like a hassle to go through life saying 'Amelia but it's spelt A-E-M-I-L-I-A' every time. But I'm lazy Smile

  1. Clara (lovely, my niece stole the name though)
  2. Amelia (pretty but popular)
  3. Mia (pretty but popular)
  4. Kaia (don't dislike the name but know a child called that that I do)
  5. Matilda (pretentious)
  6. Hailey (like but a bit dated rather than old lady chic)
  7. Tabitha (cat)
  8. Mackenzie (boy's name)
  9. Kylie (there's only one Kylie and why would you call your child boomerang anyway?)
  10. Lia (is that a name?)
TudorJess · 07/09/2012 23:20

10 Amelia - lovely classic name
9 Clara - as above
8 Hailey (with spelling Hayley, nice 70s name due a comeback)
7 Mia - like
6 Lia - like with spelling Leah
5 Kaia - OK but Kay is prettier
4 Kylie - Minogue
3 Mackenzie - surname
2 Matilda - harsh and clunky like Brunnhilde, Hilda and Clothilde
1 Tabitha - really dislike, it sounds odd (and no, I don't like cats!)

mathanxiety · 07/09/2012 23:34

Amelia
Clara
Hailey
Kaia
Kylie
Lia
Mackenzie
Matilda
Mia
Tabitha

I have put them in order of perference:
(10) Clara/ Matilda -- lovely Germanic names, feminine but not fluffy

(8) Tabitha -- nice biblical name, feminine, not fluffy

(6) Hailey - nice but a bit surnamey for my taste

(4) Lia - prefer Leah spelling, seems a stronger name that way. Spelled Lia it looks like the L was picked to tack onto the popular IA ending..
(4) Mia - nice but a bit wispy
(4) Amelia - the 'mealy' bit in the middle doesn't appeal to me

(2) Kaia hippie-ish (I also prefer Kay, which I think is due a revival, very sweet name)

(1) Kylie/ Mackenzie - yeugh

mathanxiety · 07/09/2012 23:34

Amelia - 7 - not my style, but timeless and elegant.
Clara - 8 - a bit edgier, but still classic.
Hailey - 1 - misspelling of a dated name that wasn't nice in the first place.
Kaia - 2 - not classy.
Kylie - 5 - dated and a little downmarket but not hideous.
Lia - 2 - criminal misspelling of dull Leah which at least has pedigree.
Mackenzie - 1 - surname. Vile.
Matilda - 6 - becoming ubiquitous but classy and pretty, and useable day to day.
Mia - 4 - bland, nothing name.
Tabitha - 9 - by far my favourite. I would call a Tabitha Kitty Grin

HoratiaWinwood · 09/09/2012 14:12

Come back OP! Need to know which of us are on your page - although there is a general consensus...

Sorry, I wasn't being deliberately harsh but you just seemed to have picked names I don't much like. You should just choose the one you and your family like the most and not worry about it. The world would be very boring if we all liked the same things.

toffeesam · 09/09/2012 14:21
