Still struggling on names for our twin girls

gardenpixies32 · 05/09/2012 15:14

Have been wracking my brains but I cannot come up with the right name to go with the one name we have decided on.

Expecting twin girls in 5-6 weeks. Initially we decided to pick one name each. Not a good idea. I want Georgina and DP wants Megan. In my opinion, Megan and Georgina are very different names. Surname is short, one syllable, so I think a 3 syllable name, like Georgina, sounds good. I think Sophia and Isabella go nicely with Georgina but DP insists on Megan. How can I persuade him otherwise?

Any other thoughts of 3 syllable names that go with Georgina?

Sophia and Olivia?

alienreflux · 05/09/2012 15:19

eloise!! it's my little girls name and i love it.but if his heart is set on megan, does it matter what other names you come up with?

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 05/09/2012 15:21

Why di they have to match? I think it's nicer to treat them as two individual humans and Megan is a lovely name.

Plus George, Georgie and Gina all work well with Meg.

Theas18 · 05/09/2012 15:23

What up with georgina and megan?

THey are fine together, and you've chosen a name each. FWIW I think it's really great having twins and giving them individual names rather than " matchy matchy" ones with the same no of syllables etc

The will be georgie and meggie anyway when little and Gina and Meg as big girls anyway like as not. These combos are nice and not too twee - names that give scope to be anything they like.

Flimflammery · 05/09/2012 15:24

There are millions of other Sophias and Sophies at the moment.

Georgina and Charlotte (even though 2 syllables)? Then you could call them Georgie and Charlie and everyone will think you have two boys.

P.S. I like Megan

MarchelineWhatNot · 05/09/2012 15:25

There is nothing wrong with Megan & Georgina, I think you are over-analysing it. I also like Meg & Georgie - I think they sound really cool Smile

gardenpixies32 · 05/09/2012 15:26

They don't have to match. I would never choose matching names but Megan is very English/Welsh with no reflection of my culture. I have asked him if we could choose names that reflect both our cultures.

film - Charlotte is lovely and a name DP likes too! He also likes Constance which I am not keen on at all!

What is your culture - so we can suggest names that reflect it?

I think Georgina and Megan are a lovely combination (and none of the Megans I know have Welsh heritage either...) but if you don't like those, what about:

Phoebe
Beatrice
Florence
Tess(a)
Maya
Rebecca
Hannah
Thea
Chloe
Rachel
Antonia
Francesca
Elisa
Esther

racingheart · 05/09/2012 22:26

I think Megan and Georgina sound lovely together. I'd probably give Megan a longer middle name and Georgina a shorter one, because siblings will fight over everything including numbers of syllables they were given at birth!

FWIW if my two had been girls, they'd have been Sophia and Georgia.

GW297 · 05/09/2012 22:29

Georgina and Megan are both lovely names and I think they go really well together, while at the same time being two very different names for two separate girls/personalities and not 'the twins' if that makes sense.

birdofthenorth · 06/09/2012 07:54

I like Megan. Megan and Georgina sounds lovely. So long as your one syllable surname isn't Fox, as I'm not sure Megan Fox is the best role model to live up too!

tigrou · 06/09/2012 09:00

I think Megan and Georgina are great together - can't actually think of anything better

goshandspecs · 06/09/2012 09:10

Z o f i a

I like Megan and Georgina. (Meg & Georgie)

Lancelottie · 06/09/2012 09:12

I think you need to stick to your original arrangement, to be fair. Otherwise he could equally ask that you change Georgina to a two-syllable name of his choosing.
Maybe move on to discussing middle names.

goodygumdrops · 06/09/2012 09:13

If you don't think they go why not change your choice?

toysoldiers · 06/09/2012 09:16

Have no idea what culture Georgina comes from but I don't think of Megan as English or Welsh.

Australian maybe, but then I watched the Thorn Birds at an impressionable age Grin

I like them.

gardenpixies32 · 06/09/2012 09:40

Thanks for the input. I will definitely give Megan more thought, maybe they do sound nice together :)

I wanted something that works well here in England and in Greece where my family live. Georgina/Georgia are originally Greek names and popular in Greece. That is why Sophia or Isabella appealed so much to me. I still have 5 weeks for Megan to grow on me.

dietcokeandwine · 06/09/2012 13:30

gardenpixies how about giving Megan one of those names as a middle name? You could have a shorter middle name for Georgina and then either Sophia or Isabella for Megan. Megan Sophia, for example, sounds gorgeous and that way you would still be marking the Greek connection.

I am slightly biased Grin as Megan is our chosen name for our baby if she's a girl, but I think it's a lovely name and goes really well with Georgina.

HiHowAreYou · 06/09/2012 18:19

I think they go really nicely together.

I also agree with you about Megan. Surely it is possible to find another name which is in use in both countries that you both like? Ps good luck with the births!
