Still struggling on names for our twin girls

Have been wracking my brains but I cannot come up with the right name to go with the one name we have decided on.

Expecting twin girls in 5-6 weeks. Initially we decided to pick one name each. Not a good idea. I want Georgina and DP wants Megan. In my opinion, Megan and Georgina are very different names. Surname is short, one syllable, so I think a 3 syllable name, like Georgina, sounds good. I think Sophia and Isabella go nicely with Georgina but DP insists on Megan. How can I persuade him otherwise?

Any other thoughts of 3 syllable names that go with Georgina?

Oh we're doing 3 syllable names as well... our shortlist is

Mathilda

Dorothea

Cecilia

Lannie33 · 06/09/2012 22:29

I'm not much help as I would say there's nothing wrong with Megan and Georgina. If I were to change one, I would change Georgina to something else.

OpheliaBumps · 06/09/2012 22:37

We chose names with the same number of letters for our twins (boy/girl), so neither has a disadvantage when they learn to write their own names.

I like both Georgina and Megan, but agree that they have different connotations. To me, Georgina is posher than Megan. I would expect a Megan to be more feisty and independent than a Georgina.

Suggestions of three-syllable names similar to Georgina:-

Susannah (nn Susie)
Harriet
Phillippa
Emmeline
Lucinda (Lucy)
Annabel (Annie)

Names with a similar vibe to Megan:

Imogen
Phoebe
Carys
Rachel
Zoe
Tess

I would use Georgina and Megan. Both nice names, no problem!

Sophia and Isabella are two a penny at the moment. All charm obliterated by their over use. I would stick with Georgina and Megan.

MERLYPUSS · 07/09/2012 21:34

Go with your original choice. Don't have matching names or the same initial. It looks like you are trying too hard IMO. (I have twin boys. Both classic names but dont match)

ELR · 07/09/2012 21:35

I like Juliet

Madamnit · 07/09/2012 21:42

I know girl twins in their 20s Megs & George - gorgeous girls and gorgeous names!

SilkStalkings · 08/09/2012 12:14

I think having two very different sounds is good and Megan is easy for Greek people to pronounce. Remember you will always be saying their names together so 2 that end in /a/ is a mouthful. 'Megan and Georgina' is very easy on the tongue.
My fantasy girl twins were always Wren and Linnet.

SilkStalkings · 08/09/2012 12:16

Plus you have Georgina from your culture and Megan from his, job done. You could always give Megan a Greek middle name and Georgina an extra English one.

I feel bad for your DH. How mean

Pixies, you could change the deal about the names. It is no longer pick one each, but that both of you have to agree on both names. Google naming together, it is a site where you can both go through the top 500 names seperately and tick ones you like, and then it gives you a short list of your mutual choices.

P.s. you are not mean. pick one each might have been a logical and simple solution to what is more than 2 times as hard as picking a singleton name. But you should get a veto.

awhistlingwoman · 08/09/2012 17:11

I love Georgina.

My DTs are Georgina and Jessica. Didn't realise Jessica was quite so popular when I picked it but I do like trisyllabic names ending in -a for some reason! And yes I did pick them because they 'went' together Blush

awhistlingwoman · 08/09/2012 17:13

How about Sylvia?
Julia?
Margaret? Could still shorten to Meg?

Kayano · 08/09/2012 18:31

Why tell me to piss off? I'm just saying that I think you should both get to name a twin if you can't agree.

Megan is a nice name

Who said anything about perfect wives? Oh wait that was you Hmm

gardenpixies32 · 08/09/2012 18:36

Thanks for the input everyone. We have decided to have a list of names and decide once they are born. It is not as easy as I thought it would be though.

No, naming babies is not as easy as we would think pre-pregnancy! Grin

I don't think Megan and Georgina are too different.

I have to say I really don't like the name Megan and I think Megan and Georgina are very different.

I also think you chose a name that works well in both cultures whereas the DH didn't really extend past England with his choice and I see your point there.
