What do you think about Iris? Is it a classic or do you think the old Edwardian types of names were a fad from about ten years ago? Are 1940's names more on trend now. I'm totally lost... but love the meaning and the Greek Myth connection.

I absolutely love this name. A lovely meaning and a beautiful flower.

Pinkflipflop · 03/09/2012 19:48

I love the name but my dh has an aunt called iris and some people's accent makes it sound like arse!

Just saying, am sure the people you know are much better spoken!!

I love it, but there are rather a lot of them about atm. If this isn't a problem for you, use it :)

Thanks for the feedback.

I've just checked the stats and it's number 147! A bit more popular than I thought but not bad.

Is lovely and translates to the Spanish Arco iris..rainbow..! Also fond memories of a lovely Great Aunt Iris. I love it.

Really dislike it, too eyebally.

SquealyB · 04/09/2012 11:48

I think it is lovely and will suit a little girl and a woman. When trying to pick names I always imagine how they would feel introducing themselves at a business meeting!

squoosh · 04/09/2012 12:02

It's very elegant, like the flower itself.

jkklpu · 04/09/2012 12:04

really like it - my favourite flower name, along with Violet

mumnosGOLDisbest · 04/09/2012 12:06

beautiful :)

MrsJohnDeere · 04/09/2012 12:17

Absolutely love it!

MoonHare · 04/09/2012 16:23

I love it, we would have used it but our surname just doesn't go with any name ending in an s sound. It's simple, short and easy to spell but still has a pretty sound while at the same time being a strong sounding name. Plus the flower itself is gorgeous.

My 11 year old dd is called Iris, and I still love it. I think it is elegant, strong, classic and feminine. We named her for family and Iris Murdoch (whom I adore and admire immensely). We have gone years without meeting another and only in the last 6 months we have met somebody whose younger (6 year old) sister is called Iris.
