What do you think of the name Lushe as my baby daughter's name?

What do you think of the name Lushe (silent e) as my baby daughter's name? Plenty of people have the surname Lush so why not have it as a first name? I already have a daughter called Harlowe which caused uproar with the family but has been received well in nursery but I need something just as unusual for my new arrival due in January. This is my first post so please be nice to me...

Cookie - Thank you for your comment, I do always try to think of what people will call my child at school, it is always a factor that goes into choosing a name. I had never heard of Lush meaning anything other than lovely so to hear some people associate it to meaning drunk means that it is definately off the list.

Lush is an abbreviation of luscious, hence the shop and 'she (or it) is right lush'. A lush is an alcoholic in British English. Bit old fashioned maybe but well known.

Lux relates to luxurious.

What's beautiful to me probably won't be to you Smile The baby name book I bought had something like 7,000 names with their meanings and derivations. There are loads online now too. Basically I took the govt lists of popular names for the past 5 years and crossed all these out from the book and then went through the rest until I found some I liked and made a shortlist.

I have an unusual name and I hate it. I was teased at school for it and it's not a pleasant feeling. But at least it's an actual name, I guess I should be thankful for that.

What's wrong with there being other children with the same name? The teacher won't confuse them just because there are three Emilys.

What were your thoughts on my suggestions Jem?

Would it be kinder to let op make the same mistake again. Her choice was dreadful first time, and Lushe is even worse.
Anyone who knows Harlow knows that it is not the type of place you name your dd after.

i would have thought more people would associate it with Jean Harlowe or Nicole Ritchie's wee girl, tbh.

Sorry but this is not a fake so please can everyone take me seriously. I am new to posting so your comments about an OP are falling on deaf ears, aka I don;t know what an OP is.

Bruffin - just because you are posting anonymously on the Internet, you are not excused from basic courtesy. The OP had already taken the overwhelming consensus on board! There was no need to be nasty!!!

I'm from London and lush is a wino lady or a slang term for saying something is nice. Not a good name at all. Sorry

I haven't read the whole thing but haven't noticed people not taking you seriously Confused.

I think most people here don't like the associations with Lush (it really is very derogatory), so it's great you've now ruled it out.

FWIW (for what it's worth), I really like the name Harlowe although doubt I'd have the nerve to use it Grin

Good luck finding a name you love.

The OP was not seeking your opinion on her Dd1s name Bruffin. You had no reason to bag it, clearly you are ok with that. Each to their own ...

IMoniker - Sorry I'm trying to keep up. Thank you so much for the suggestion of names but they all sound quite old fashioned so don't like Sorry, I am fussy ;0)

AitchTwo and onedev and anyone else that has told me what OP means thank u, they said about it being a fake so I thought OP light have been one of the admin/techy guys from the site.

Bruffin - You are being very harsh, I asked for people to be nice. Why do some people take pleasure out of being so nasty??!

Thumbwitch - I like Jewel, bet no one else will ;0)

Bruffin - I didn't realise I was posting anonymously, I do have a username so not sure why it wasn;t used.

Onedev - Thanks for your comments about Harlowe, she is quite popular so it was a good gamble.

Pineapple - I like Seren and Fuschia (also my favourite colour!)
