What do you think? Would it be impossible to avoid it being shortened to Chris/Chissy.

I realy like this name. When I talked to my DH about having it in our short-list he thought it sounded like a Christmas fairy though. Hmm

I think nicknames can be chosen; if you're introduced by a nn, most people will call you by that nn. Do you like Christy? Or Bel?

baskingseals · 31/08/2012 22:17

i absolutely love Christabel. i don't know why exactly. i think the nickname Christy is also lovely.

0lympia · 31/08/2012 23:18

oh i love it! Fabulous name. I like Christa, if you throw about the nick name Christa occasionally then people will pick up on that. I'm not keen on Chris for a girl. but Christa is lovely.

Badgerina · 01/09/2012 08:32

No. I don't really like the "Bell" names though. Christabel sounds... like a My Little Pony.

outtolunchagain · 01/09/2012 08:55

My ds1 (18) has a friend called Christobel, they have been at school together since nursery when he came home one day and told us he had a friend called TinkerbellGrin

If it helps she was Christobel until about year6 ,she is now called Chrissy / Christobel interchangeably but everyone knows her real name so it's not a complete replacement IYSWIM

My sister has a friend who's managed to remain Christobel - she did go to a very posh school though! I think it's very pretty, though a little frilly for me. More likely to end up as Chrissy or Christy than Chris I'd have thought - I agree, really don't like Chris for a girl.

manicinsomniac · 01/09/2012 19:54

I like it. I teach a lovely one (aged 11) who is Chrissy to her friends but never anything but Christabel to adults and children she doesn't know well and she writes Christabel on work and stuff. I don't think she'll be a permanent Chrissy. I think you should go for it.

mrstowers · 01/09/2012 20:09

I know a Christabel in her early 20's - her nn is Tink.

squoosh · 01/09/2012 20:21

It's a super girlie fluffy name but then I think of two historical Christabels, Pankhurst and Bielenberg, who were anything but fluffy girlies.

So yes, I like it.

parabelle · 01/09/2012 20:28

Always think of Bielenberg also. Lovely name.

Anonymumous · 02/09/2012 20:37

I loved this name as a child - I think it was a character in Bunty or something similar. There are loads of possible nicknames, so I think it will be easy to avoid Chris or Chrissy - unless she decides she likes those names when she's older. In which case, you're stuck with it I'm afraid!

Mintyy · 02/09/2012 20:39

I know a 40-something Christabel and she is known by everyone as Chrissy.

But it is such a lovely name.
