Scott or Robert - do you know any?

They are the 2 top names on our list at the moment, but I'm unsure about both of them because of the associations I have with the names - Roberts can be a bit wimpy IME and Scott (which I like, but I'm more unsure of because I don't know any under the age of 35) is a bit harsh... May have a tendency to be a bully... Simon is the other choice but I'm not sure about that one either!

I just think of Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan). Swoon. Good name.

JimbosJetSet · 27/08/2012 10:49

So nobody knows any Scotts or Roberts? Sad

I know quite a few of both - generally mid 30s although my friend had a baby & called him Robert. Nice names.

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 27/08/2012 10:52

I know a 25 year old Scott and a 5 year old Scott. Lovely, both of them.

Know lots of Roberts. 1 is Rob, 1 is Bobbie, 1 is Bob a couple of Robbies, a couple of plain old Robert. All are over 30

Don't know any Simon.

MrsTomHardy · 27/08/2012 10:54

I know both....robert is my xh name and he walked out of our dc's lives 9 years ago and hasn't seen them since!!!!

I prefer Scott....i know a 40 year old man with this name and a 13 year old with it.

And Simon...well IMO its quite a wet, wimpy name (sorry to any Simon's)

derekthehamster · 27/08/2012 10:54

I know a 4 yr old Robert, love the name Scott though, sounds rugged and manly to me Grin

FelicitywasSarca · 27/08/2012 10:55

I know a baby Robert (Robbie)

Love it and doesn't seem odd or wimpy at all.

TellyBug · 27/08/2012 10:57

I don't know any, no. But I would go with Robert and call him Bob. From birth.

lucysnowe · 27/08/2012 11:30

I know a Robert. But he is always called Bobby. Or Bob. Or Bobs. Or The Bobster. Or Bob-a-Dob. You get the picture :)

countrybumpkin2 · 27/08/2012 11:34

I am married to a Robert (nn Bob). He is now wimpy in the slightest, he is a strong well built farmer.....to me its quite a strong name.

countrybumpkin2 · 27/08/2012 11:34

*not

lottiegarbanzo · 27/08/2012 11:42

Like Robert best, know a few in 30s / 40s who are outdoorsy and nice people. Not so keen on Scott. Simon sounds a bit wimpy to me but all are well known but quite underused, which means you can make them your own without having to spell / explain them all the time.

LadyKopperberg · 27/08/2012 11:43

I know a Scott and a Robert. Two roberts.

waitingtobeamummy · 27/08/2012 11:47

I know 3 Roberts. 1 in his 30's who's one of the nicest people I've ever known. Other 2are numpties.
1 Scott who's mid 20's- he's super wimpy/ under the thumb.
Sorry.

manbearpig · 27/08/2012 11:50

I would go with Robert.
I went out with a Scott when i was 6 and used chant this to him in the playground so he would chase me. 'Scott snot put it in a pot, eat it whilst it's hot' charming I know.
I know alot of rob's - all decent guys

singaporeswing · 27/08/2012 11:51

I'm in my early 20s and there's a lot of Scott's around my age and a little older. Robert is a little less popular - think I know of one who will be about 21.

AndieMatrix · 27/08/2012 11:52

I know a few Roberts, all referred to as Rob. Not wimpy at all but they are grown adults. All genuinely nice men.
Had a cousin called Scott, nicest person you could ever meet, lived him dearly. Also knew a Scott at school, very funny, not a bully.

I do get out off names if I've known people with them that have been horrible human beings.

HiHowAreYou · 27/08/2012 11:55

I don't know any baby Scotts or Roberts. Only adults. For a baby, I think I prefer Scott for some reason, don't know why!

workshy · 27/08/2012 11:59

I know a 60 year old Robert -'Bob' very manly
I know a 2 year old Robert -'Bobby''Bobster' etc etc

I know a lot of Robs aged 30-45, some wimpy some not

Scott -only know one and he is an arrogant prick so I wouldn't pick for that reason

Simon I like, know a few, only one is a PITA -don't like the abreviation of Si always sounds like sly

MammyToMany · 27/08/2012 12:09

I know a father and son Scott (father) and Robert/Rob (son) Rob is really rather sexy and goes off travelling and has beautifully exotic girlfriends.

Also know a 30+ Robert, and he is a weak man. A Robert in his 20s who is a biker long haired type and a few baby Bobbys.

MammyToMany · 27/08/2012 12:10

The only Simons I know are pathetic examples of men, sorry!

blondiep14 · 27/08/2012 12:11

My DH is a Scott (33) and definitely not a wimp, or a bully Smile

Margerykemp · 27/08/2012 12:13

I know a 4yo Scott.

Ive heard of kids called bobbie but not robert.

janx · 27/08/2012 12:14

My dp is Robert - and my friend has named her baby Robert. I think it is a good strong clever name Smile

manicinsomniac · 27/08/2012 12:31

Children-wise, I know one of each. Robert is 10 and Scott and Simon are both 9.

I know quite a few adults for all three names.

I like them all but think Robert is the nicest.
