Is this name becoming too popular? What are your thoughts on this name? We are having such bother choosing a girls name. We want something uncommon but not too unusual. Something a bit sort of punchy as the surname is very common and quite frankly boring.

I was thinking oonagh or cleo but I just don't know anyone. I'm half Irish half Egyptian (hence oonagh and cleo) and my other half is English. Not sure if that might inspire some names...any help or ideas would be so so so appreciated. It's doing my head in and I'm being induced next week!

I love Violet or Violette.

dubz · 20/08/2012 14:54

I like Violet and don't think it is that popular/common. I also love the name Hazel which I think is a similar style to Violet.

thegreylady · 20/08/2012 15:13

Violet is gorgeous

Nancy66 · 20/08/2012 18:26

It's lovely and it's definitely not that popular.

rollonfriday · 20/08/2012 18:42

Violet is lovely, but make sure that you like 'Vi' because that's what she'll get called. I think Vi is cute, but if you don't like that then don't go with Violet!

CremeEggThief · 20/08/2012 18:46

Una instead of Oonagh? Punchier spelling, but same pronounciation. This was my Irish granny's name, so I may be biased!

buttercrumble · 20/08/2012 18:47

I absolutely love Violet, its one of my favorites along with Willow......

HerBigChance · 20/08/2012 18:47

Violet was my grandmother's name, so I'm biased, but I think it's lovely.

EireHead · 20/08/2012 19:06

I think it is beautiful, and it was also my grandmother's name- hey, herbigchance, are we cousins? But when my brother chose that name for his American daughter, I worried that, when she is a possibly stroppy teen, she will be termed "Violent"

CrazyRandomHappenstance · 20/08/2012 19:07

My DD is called Violet nn Lettie she is the only one i know.

elah11 · 20/08/2012 19:10

I like the name Violet, its very pretty. I know a girl called Violetta (Vee-oh-letta) which I really love.

PepperOnMyPaprikash · 20/08/2012 19:53

Love it. Also love Lettie as a nickname. Gorgeous

StellaNova · 20/08/2012 20:00

I know a two year old Violet, she gets called Vee.

lentilweavinghippy · 20/08/2012 20:00

Violet is a beautiful name, would have been on our shortlist but our surname begins with a D...Hmm

BlueSkySoftSand · 20/08/2012 20:05

I adore the name Violet!

ALittleBitOfMagic · 20/08/2012 20:08

Loooooove it !! Was on our shortlist til we found out we're having a ds ! Grin

twonker · 20/08/2012 23:01

Is it getting popular? What about viola?

Sheldonella · 21/08/2012 09:04

I love it, so beautiful. Love Viola too.

charlottehere · 21/08/2012 09:07

Love it.

BikeMedalsRunningMedals · 21/08/2012 09:11

I know lots of preschool children - only one Violet. It's all about Amelia at the moment - I know 8 under 1!

PunkyPod · 21/08/2012 13:40

My dd is 11 weeks old and a little Violet. Whenever people ask her name they comment how beautiful it is and uncommon. I just love her name. Won't be many around. Loads of Ella/Millie/Amelia type names around at the moment.

Puremince · 21/08/2012 14:15

Violet is an excellent name.

squoosh · 21/08/2012 15:26

I think Violet is gorgeous.

MaidenDevon · 22/08/2012 17:39

DD is Felicity Violet (age 2) and niece is Violet Rose (4 months). Gaining popularity possibly, though it was a family name for us (great grandmother).

5madthings · 22/08/2012 17:52

i love the name Violet but dp vetoed it, maidendevon i also had Felicity on my list and again dp vetoed it and Rose as a middle name for my dd was also vetoed, we did settle on a lovely name in the end tho.

if we ever have any more and it was a girl felicity and violet would both be on my list again, but its not happening and i think my odds of getting another girl are pretty slim as well Grin
