Help! Still no name for DS2

glitzalicious · 18/08/2012 22:21

DS1 is Oscar (grandfather's name, quite surprised at how 'trendy' it's become!)
DS2 due imminently and DH and I can't agree on a name.

In the running at the moment:

Leo - have loved this forever, but worried that it's everywhere now (is it? I've been overseas for a few years so out of the loop on that front). Moving back soon and would hate for DS2 to be one of seven Leo's in his class?

Milo - Still like, vetoed for DS1 due to Australian relatives (chocolate milk drink association). Rarely see these folks though so not sure how much I should care?

Arlo - Love with Oscar, family might think it's too 'odd'

Max - Like, but find it a bit 'meh' when I say it repeatedly

Stellan - Love this, again boring family might find hard to accept

Evan - Name of DH's nephew (who we never see)

Names we love but can't use:
Sebastian
Luca
Alastair

Any advice/suggestions most appreciated!

Oscar was top of my list for DS2 for a long long time. Smile

Leo is becoming more popular but not as much as others; I only know 2 and one of those is in his mid-twenties. Love it with Oscar!

DS2 is Milo. Biased obviously but I completely love it. I still smile just saying his name.

Arlo - I find Oscar and Arlo difficult to say together; too many vowels or something.

Stellan - think I'm with your DH on it I'm afraid.

Max, Evan - not as nice as others on your list and completely agree with you re Max being a bit "meh".

Other names we considered for DS2 Jasper, Reuben, Otto (prob not with Oscar, might be a bit twee), Ezra, Chester.

I love Leo. It's the name of a (grown up) person I really admire, who is a brilliant songwriter, poet, photographer, lover of art, nature and life.

Even if I didn't love the name anyway, he would make me Smile.

survivingsummer · 18/08/2012 22:32

Such a shame you can't use Alastair - lovely and underused IMO.

Of your list I like Leo and don't think it's that popular tbh. Max is probably the most popular.

What about:
Alec
Louis
Stefan
Dominic
Miles
Laurence
Alexander

exoticfruits · 18/08/2012 22:33

I prefer Alistair.

Leo is the best of the rest.

Pinkflipflop · 18/08/2012 22:35

Theo or Reuben?

I'm adding these as they are on my list and I also love Sebastian and Oscar from your list!!

mameulah · 18/08/2012 22:37

What about Oliver? Just an idea!

BellaOfTheBalls · 18/08/2012 22:38

Sorry - thought your DH had vetoed Stellan.

FWIW my PIL have very "vanilla" taste in names and came round to DS2's name really really quickly. I've only had one cats bum mouth reaction to it, and only one person thus far has sung the Tweenies theme tune at him & that was the doctor that discharged me from the postnatal ward. I would have said something to him but he was discharging me on very strong painkillers at the time so decided to shut up Grin

threeleftfeet · 18/08/2012 22:40

I'd say go for Arlo. It's a lovely name, and although they may raise eyebrows at first IMO people get used to the more unusual names once they know them as an actual person.

LemonLovesLilac · 18/08/2012 22:47

I think Arlo and Leo are the best out of your list and go great with Oscar!

twonker · 18/08/2012 22:49

Like arlo. Here is a famous arlo who might consolidate your like or dislike for the name Arlo

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/08/2012 22:53

Don't like Stellan at all, sorry, and not fond of Arlo.

Why can't you use Luca? Do you like Luke/Lucas?

Like Leo best from your list.

What about Laurence/Laurie? Christopher/Kit?

Badgerina · 19/08/2012 01:16

I have an Oscar and names on our list for DS2 were:

Felix
Theodore
Ambrose

We've settled on Spike Grin

mrstowers · 19/08/2012 15:41

Max is Oscar's father in Eastenders so I associate those names together with 2 soap characters.

newby2 · 21/08/2012 13:48

Love Arlo and what about Ivan? Evan and Arlo are my favourites.

amck5700 · 21/08/2012 15:04

Ivo? Bit of a composite of some of the names you like and a lovely name in itself :)

WildRumpus · 21/08/2012 15:29

Love Arlo and Milo. Leo also v good and not all that popular in my neck of the woods. Max v v popular here.

CityDweller · 21/08/2012 16:12

I know two Arlos under 1. I think it's really going up in popularity. I love it though. Milo too (on my list). As is Leo! I quite like Stellan, actually. Like Max, but think it's pretty popular now? Don't like Evan at all!

randomimposter · 21/08/2012 16:12

I know an Oscar and Otis.

And Arlo is great. What about Jago?

Faverolles · 21/08/2012 16:14

Ivan goes well with Oscar.

sailorsgal · 21/08/2012 17:07

Leo is a lovely name and I've not heared of any kids under five called it around these parts.

I did hear the name Leander the other day (an actor) and thought it was a cool!

almapudden · 21/08/2012 17:16

I like Arlo, Stellan and Milo and think they go well with Oscar.

Leo is a bit boring and I can't stand Evan - don't know why, just screams "boring" to me!
